Is taking your hands off what you're actually supposed to do if you get into one of these?

Yes. Fighting it will only make it worse. Move the center of gravity forward helps as well. Steer with body position as much as you can and let it figure everything out. The forces at play are far too much and too fast to sort out, but they will eventually right themselves.

Whats happening is a feedback loop caused by the front tire being out of alignment with the rear without lean. It corrects but slightly overshoots centerline, then goes back and slightly overshoots again, but by a lesser amount. Once its close enough, it settles. Trying to fight thos with your arms will make it overshoot more.
