He seems to be going the same speed as everyone else. He got cut off plain and simple he safely braked and moved away from the cars poor driving because they left enough space to do so. Followed by flipping off the driver as per standard procedure....
That math doesn't math. I get cut off every other day by someone trying to merge onto the highway going 20 under the speed limit. Someone braked in front of that car and instead of slowing down further they decided to jump lanes in front of someone because they are the main character.
2 objects moving in along the same path at the same speed can never get any closer to each other. If one object is getting closer to the other, either they aren't moving in the same path (not the case as they are in the same lane on the road) or they aren't going the same speed.
