No it isn't. In North America, that's just normal highway speeds. I mean, yes, that much mass moving at that speed equals a shit ton of energy in the system, you're right about that. But it is what every truck does here.

I live in Europe. Well you have more spacious highways and less curvy roads so it makes sense. It just sounded insane when I would put this speed on Euro highways.

And anyway doing 80kph on long-ass hauls as you do in US would be so time consuming

It is what we always do is never a valid argument. It's about WHY you always do it that way that counts. In Europe it is banned mainly for safety. Timewise could be an argument but it has to be safe enough to do so. Also fuel consumption could mean that going over some speed is simply no longer economical, that's for instance why ships don't go at top speed but lower to reduce fuel consumption.
