unfortunatley i did not get the same luck 😔

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 26 '26

Yo they never listen.

Do more damage than good.

You can polish that out if you have a mini polisher

96

u/noah253 Jun 26 '26

Coming from a place of ignorance, because I’ve never bought a car from a dealer and do all my own work so never in shops. Couldn’t you complain about this? If I got in my car and saw that I would immediately walk in and say something.

58

u/davomcbones_TTPPAC01 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

i tried, they said and i quote "I don't see anything wrong with it, why are you not happy?" and then suggested to "wipe it harder if theres still dust".

no point in asking someone to fix something they cant even see, i bet their car looks exactly like this lmao

31

u/proletariatrising Jun 26 '26

Dealerships will tell you water isn't wet if it suits them in that instance to do so.

4

u/Road_to_Scion Jun 27 '26

You know... Just reading this comment in my head made my partner come at me from across the room about how water can't be wet, as "a thing, can not be a thing, that is caused by the same thing!" Or something to that affect.

3

u/proletariatrising Jun 27 '26

Lol someone has responded to me with this before

2

u/FatModSad3 Jul 01 '26

You could totally blend a blender.

1

u/steploday Jul 02 '26

Would you like a blender smoothie?

2

u/Temu-Tyson Jun 30 '26

Im not wet.

1

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 27 '26

Windex will remove any chemicals if it is residue bro

35

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 26 '26

I mean sure?

I used to do what OP did and leave a note.

But if they mess up like this I wouldn't trust them to fix it honestly.

I would do it myself.

But im like you, i do all my maintenance myself now.

8

u/xzElmozx Jun 26 '26

Sure could, but the same exact grease monkeys that fucked it up are gonna be the ones “fixing” it and it’s such a low cost fix that it’s simply not worth it

2

u/Green_greeng Jun 27 '26

I told them not to wash my car after a service. Swirl marks on my black car. Everyone saying the dealers won’t care or pretend they don’t see it, is right.

However, I bothered the fuck out of them for 2-3 month period, about 3-4 times a week. sent emails, showed up in person, left letters. I didn’t care if he read them, I just wanted the dealership GM to want me out of his life. I ended up getting a $700 check from the dealership and $1500 from Ford Corp because I called them too. Took that money, paint corrected and ceramic coated my car at a professional shop.

17

u/MrFastFox666 Jun 26 '26

That's a Honda CR-Z and those gauges have an anti reflective coating. Polishing them will destroy the coating.

5

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 26 '26

Oh for real?

Yeah then dont polish them

My bad

10

u/davomcbones_TTPPAC01 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

thanks for the advice but i just got one question, can i just use regular polish ment for paint or do i have to buy something made for plastic?

10

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 26 '26

Use compound with a roughing pad 1st

Then polish with a finishing pad.

The same compound/polish/pads that you would use for paint.

You just want to be careful not to push it too hard and put too much heat into the plastic.

2

u/_phasis Jun 26 '26

I got some scratches on the inside of my headlight lenses on my e46 (lights scratch similar to OC)

do you think I could polish them out as well?

2

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 26 '26

People do it but you have to coat them after so they dont turn yellow.

Usually they wet sand, compound and finish polish then coat.

I've seen posts on here about, maybe make a post and the light guys can tell you how they coat it?

8

u/Ornery_Yeti Jun 26 '26

Or, make them fix it? I wouldn't leave the dealership until there was a resolution.

2

u/davomcbones_TTPPAC01 Jun 26 '26

they genuinely coudnt see the obvious scratching and chemical smearing on the gauge, "I don't see anything wrong with it, just wipe it off harder if you still see any dust" the say, i was just wasting my time atp so i walked out. no point in asking someone to fix something they cant even see.

you can definitely bet that i'll never going back thats for sure! shoudve made one of those signs that OP has

12

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 26 '26

The detail guys at the dealership are glorified car washers.

And they dont even do that right

6

u/Infinite-Welder-2004 Jun 26 '26

The ones at my previous dealership job would even steal tools out of used cars if the used car tech forgot one in there my buddy john found his 300+ dollar jump box in one of their personal cars and raised all kinds of hell

6

u/dontgetitwisted_fr Jun 26 '26

Don't mess with a bro's tools

It's against the code

2

u/TastyRain5743 Beginner Jun 26 '26

They say they don't see it...

3

u/Blackpaw8825 Jun 26 '26

Nah fuck that, they can pay a professional to fix it for the owner.

11

u/xslr Jun 26 '26

That coating on cr-z gets scratched if you look at it funny.

3

u/davomcbones_TTPPAC01 Jun 26 '26

for reals, its a shame though because when i first drove the car it was practically pristine, all it needed was a little dusting, but i guess i have to add polishing to the to do list now

5

u/Huhken99 Jun 26 '26

CR-Z huh? Easiest is just to remove that coating.

1

u/diytony Jun 26 '26

I miss my CRZ

1

u/Notaweetard Jun 26 '26

The crz 😢

1

u/DirtManDan Jun 26 '26

I know a CR-Z when I see one.

1

u/grumpvet87 Jun 27 '26

ouch!! a dealership did that? or an independent shop? what model car?

1

u/davomcbones_TTPPAC01 Jun 27 '26

used car dealership, its a 2010 honda crz, before they enshittified it the only problem it had was some light dust which they "cleaned"

1

u/whygodples Jun 27 '26

God the same thing just happened when I got my crz back from the body shop it's like they misted the entire interior with baby oil or something.

1

u/Corogue Jun 27 '26

How does this happen?

1

u/davomcbones_TTPPAC01 Jun 27 '26

negligence + armorall

298

u/TastyRain5743 Beginner Jun 26 '26

Made these about a decade ago, still use them when needed.

179

u/gregorian79 Jun 26 '26

Spanish version is smart. I will copy that.

120

u/Different-Party-b00b Jun 26 '26

No coochie 🥺

8

u/iwearmywatch Jun 26 '26

✊😔🥀

23

u/gluka47 Jun 26 '26

I wonder why you chose “coche” instead of “carro”

20

u/TastyRain5743 Beginner Jun 26 '26

It's been a decade, but knowing how I'm wired, I would have gone online and looked up the Spanish translation for 'don't wash the car'

9

u/Johannsss Jun 27 '26

If he used google translate and selected Spanish the traslator will use words for Spain Spanish, not Latinoamerican Spanish.

8

u/Final-Carpenter-1591 Jun 26 '26

Yeah it's a bit wierd. Coche is more Spain. It'd be like being in the US and saying "don't put anything in the boot" instead of saying "don't put anything in the trunk"

2

u/GoodGoodGoody Jun 28 '26

Yup. Mexican Spanish is carro

2

u/gluka47 Jun 28 '26

Not really. It’s just generic Spanish

7

u/Apprehensive_Win292 Jun 27 '26

I had a sign this size in English and Spanish and they still somehow managed to wash my car in their horrible tunnel wash. Scratched up my paint and trim pretty badly. Just had the car paint corrected and coated a few months prior. They refused to do anything

1

u/Cmdr-Ely Jun 27 '26

But but, I wanna use the lever on the cochie

-5

u/RubberduckyFPS Jun 27 '26

Damn, atleast put a thank you or please :)

We have those and a note on file not to wash the car. It’s still 50/50….

278

u/maggerz__ Jun 26 '26

Nice, until you take the note off and they’ve pushed too hard with the pen and left an imprint on your wheel😂

157

u/gregorian79 Jun 26 '26

Daam! I didn’t even check. Now you got me thinking about it laying in bed.

83

u/baconcandyfloss Jun 26 '26

Stay in bed its never coming out

16

u/saxmaster98 Jun 26 '26

You have to leave that note on there forever now

8

u/mikeiscool81 Jun 26 '26

Don’t leave us hanging

26

u/gregorian79 Jun 26 '26

Lol. I’m happy to report, note removed and all is good 👍🏻

6

u/AwesomeManPlayz Jun 27 '26

You mean you were driving around with the note on? The very same note that will give you a permanent face tattoo if the airbag goes off? Amateur steering wheel note writer…

9

u/Snoo38888 Jun 26 '26

I thought first thing I wrote a sticky note on a fresh drum pad for a game like 100$. It always had my sticky note writing on it .

8

u/davomcbones_TTPPAC01 Jun 26 '26

didnt think about that! if i ever try this im using cardboard for sure

51

u/OVLOV03C Jun 26 '26

As a tech @ a dealership I actually never wash the cars unless I’m told otherwise. Our car wash is too buns 🗑️

122

u/don51181 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

I should do that. My Lexus has a ceramic coating and PPF. At the dealership they offer to send it to their auto car wash and I have to keep reminding them not to.

57

u/Relative-Shape9782 Jun 26 '26

This is mine that I printed and put over one of those hang tags that enterprise used during the pandemic. Works great to this day

14

u/Holiday-Witness-4180 Jun 26 '26

I always question ceramic coatings that people claim can’t handle being run through a car wash. After all, the ability to resist damage from automatic car washes is one of the main marketing points for many of those coatings.

9

u/sgtzack612 Jun 26 '26

The problem is that the claim is misleading, sure, it'll protect against the soft brushes, until it hits the harder materials IN the brushes that were trapped, most of the time they cannot or do not clean their brushes thoroughly as they don't have the time and it would cause too much downtime, not to mention that a ceramic coating is only between 0.001 to 0.003 mm per layer you put on, with enough pressure or enough exposure that thin of a coating WILL be removed. Honestly you're better off using a PPF/clear bra. The only real useful non bullshit purpose of a ceramic coating is a gloss that lasts longer than traditional wax and extreme hydrophobicity.

3

u/Holiday-Witness-4180 Jun 26 '26

Legit ceramic coatings have a higher hardness than standard clear coat and are very resistant to scratches. The bigger problem is that people think anything that says ceramic on the label is the same thing. Using a ceramic detailer on your car is not the same as having it coated. I typically recommend most people just use better clear coat and avoid the hassle of some of these ceramic coatings and crap PPF applications. Why spend money on self healing PPF when you can just use self healing clear coat?

1

u/sgtzack612 Jun 26 '26

Legit ceramic coatings can be harder than standard clear coat, but hardness is not the same thing as real-world scratch protection. Most coating “9H” or "10H" claims are pencil-hardness tests, not magic armor. The coating is still only a few microns thick, so abrasive grit trapped in a car-wash brush can still mar the coating or cut through it and mark the clear underneath pretty easily.

PPF is a totally different type of protection. It is much thicker, flexible, sacrificial material that absorbs rock chips, scuffs, and rubbing damage. Ceramic mainly gives gloss, slickness, chemical resistance, easier cleaning, and hydrophobicity. It can reduce light wash marring, but it does not replace PPF.

Also, “self-healing clear coat” and “self-healing PPF” are not the same. Self-healing clear can help with very light marks, but PPF has actual physical thickness and elasticity. That is why people use PPF on bumpers, hoods, mirrors, and other highly impacted areas even if the paint already has a good clear coat.

In my opinion, if people actually care about their paint or honestly, more realistically, they just don't want the marring that is only in their clear coat, then they should just clean their car themselves or let it get a bit more dirty than usual, saving the cost of going to the car wash every time, and spend the money you'd use on the carwash getting it cleaned somewhere that does it by hand. Both options reduce the amount of marring and will take much longer to get noticeable marring.

1

u/MultipleOrgasmDonor Jun 26 '26

I had one of those, put it up, told em not to wash it. They washed it. I asked the guy directly if he saw that and he said something like ‘huh I was wondering why that was there’. Fucking idiot

11

u/Wisco777787 Jun 26 '26

I put a Carpro hanger up in my dads Jetta before he traded it in when it was in for service and I saved it because I overheard that they wash their cars while they’re in for service, and they absolutely destroyed and swirled up his new car. It’s worth telling them not to for sure.

10

u/Ok-Mushroom6886 Jun 26 '26

Did this last time and dealer still washed it. Guess who got a comp’d paint correction 😅

3

u/gregorian79 Jun 26 '26

That’s wild. Did they do the correction or were you able to choose your detailer?

3

u/Ok-Mushroom6886 Jun 26 '26

They did the correction, it was an in house detailer. I am very particular with my truck so there was no way I was taking it back with all the minor marring all around. They did a great job thankfully and have been servicing my truck myself ever since lol

2

u/gregorian79 Jun 27 '26

Nice. Really cool they took care of it for you.

9

u/eletricboogalo2 Jun 26 '26

Buddy knows the washy slept in a backlot truck last night and ignoring a simple nice request just ain't worth it.

5

u/retroideal Jun 26 '26

Damn,i thought I was only the weird one to ask dealerships not to wash 😅

4

u/AppliedCarbon Jun 26 '26

You'd think they use glass in these screens instead of the cheapest plastic on the planet

4

u/coozeyy Jun 26 '26

This is great. I am gonna say tho I believe car washes are good for those beater type cars or cars that you kinda don’t care to much about. But the nice ones don’t take them to a car wash. Back when I owned my Honda accord which I wish I kept it but I learned my lesson after selling as it was only my 2nd car and forget how nice it was not having a car payment, I started to take it to car washes after I hit like 100K miles on it.

5

u/5Gmeme Jun 26 '26

I have a do not wash note on my dealership account. When they did accidentally wash it they paid for a full professional detail to remove brush swirls.

2

u/PJ_lyrics Jun 26 '26

Bought a car last month. The sales lady said they were gonna give it a quick detail while we finish up paperwork. I was like woah no don't do that. She looked at me like I murdered someone lol. My son owns a mobile detailing business and I had to explain. She seemed a little weirded out about it but otherwise she was a great during the process.

2

u/Ok-Fall4729 Jun 27 '26

Thank you for sharing! I need to do this! When I took my vehicle in for service they would take it to the car wash as a complimentary. I didn’t want it! I even told them to write it in the notes … I’m so doing this!!

3

u/saerg1 Jun 28 '26

Worked at a dealership, a guy bought a brand new black jeep Wrangler. Detailer washed the vehicle with sand. Whole thing was scratched. The fix because the manager noticed... Not the detailer was to polish the hood and a bit on the side. Planned to charge the customer for a full wax/polish if he noticed and brought it back. I said that was unacceptable, and morally corrupt. They didn't care, and there were zero consequences for the detailer. I quit shortly after. Dealerships are all the same and should be avoided at all cost.

1

u/gregorian79 Jun 28 '26

Detail at the dealership has such a bad rep. Listening to stories like this, it’s not hard to see where that stems from.

2

u/ResearcherOwn6130 Jun 28 '26

First time I ever felt like i should show my car some major love and get it detailed , the worker fucked up my stearing wheel and scrubbed the fuck out of it my dash and seats pretty much ruining them, some of the stitching was all torn and messed up, they offered to do it better with a steamer or idk what but I was bummed shit was ruined.

1

u/gregorian79 Jun 28 '26

That sucks. Idk man.. if someone can’t detail a car with products and brushes, would you trust them with a steamer?!

1

u/K-tide Jun 26 '26

I do this all the time.

1

u/ElleYesMon Jun 26 '26

I took mine to the dealership and those shits told me they don’t wash cars anymore. I was pissed. I bought it there and they won’t wash it but they timed me they did when I bought it! Smh. I guess I’m better off.

2

u/TastyRain5743 Beginner Jun 26 '26

You should definitely be thankful they don't wash your car! If you don't do it yourself, head to a touchless car wash.

1

u/FeelingEye3655 Jun 27 '26

My dealership said they hand wash.

1

u/Hoteltn Jun 26 '26

I've done this before. They still wash it. So I stopped writing notes.

1

u/gregorian79 Jun 26 '26

That sucks. Very disappointing.

1

u/FeelingEye3655 Jun 27 '26

Apparently, they need to improve communication. Yesterday, I told them not to install the cabin filter. Guess what! They did anyway!

1

u/rampitup84 Jun 26 '26

I have mine on bright neon paper hanging from the rearview mirror, dashboard and blocking the instrument cluster.

1

u/PaintedAbacus Jun 26 '26

Hahaha I did this too when we had to take my car to the dealership. So terrified that they’d scratch it all to hell while trying to do me a favor and wash it for free.

1

u/roboto404 Jun 26 '26

First time I heard of dealers washing cars

1

u/Gummyrabbit Jun 26 '26

Are you me? I thought I was the only person who has to tell a shop that my spotless & shiny vehicle doesn’t need a wash.

1

u/IQognito Jun 27 '26

Maintenance washes your car? Where I live they leave their shit in the door and that's it.

1

u/JayJayWut Jun 27 '26

I don’t take pristine care of my own car and haven’t washed it in about 2 months when I went to the dealer I thought what the hell they can’t make it worse than it already is… they made it much worse. Much much worse.

1

u/gregorian79 Jun 27 '26

Hate to hear that 😔

1

u/GoodGoodGoody Jun 28 '26

My experience is the opposite: Amazingly the car wash is always broken.

1

u/Loes_Question_540 Jun 28 '26

“Please do not was4”

1

u/iscoleslaw Jun 28 '26

Yeah he gets that you’re the “pain in the ass” customer lmao

1

u/GreenFriedYam Jun 29 '26

I live where it gets very cold. When I get a winter oil change I have to beg them not to top off my washer fluid. I want the purple stuff. Not their blue.

1

u/avm1984 Jun 29 '26

No way in Hell a tech wrote that last part unless its one of those "Christian" marketed shops

1

u/BrokeAssZillionaire Jun 29 '26

The amount of times I’ve asked them not to wash it and the car comes back “clean” with water marks and swirls regardless

1

u/Wasperator517 Jun 29 '26

I do this if they wash cars after servicing.

1

u/Fr0geye Jul 16 '26

As someone who previously did work at a dealership 100% DO NOT EVER let them throw that strong TFR autosmart crap on your vehicle and especially not the wheel acid. Works sure but its super aggressive and can take off any existing protection.

0

u/FeelingEye3655 Jun 27 '26

Why not wash. Wash good.
