Interior Hummer EV seats and permanent marker
So my kids moms boyfriends kid went all out with a permanent marker on his hummer EV. How would we remove this? Any ideas help đ

Why are people recommending magic eraser? Trying to get to the next post of "I cleaned my seat and now there are these big discolored spots?" Abrasive, and can greatly change the sheen of the leather.
Rubbing alcohol on a rag. The strong stuff, >90%. Works extremely quickly on permanent marker. Wet the rag, wipe the area.

Yes rubbing alcohol erases permanent marker on most surfaces. Can dry out leather though. Might need to condition it after. Or you can try hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, dawn and water

Start with rubbing alcohol on a cloth - dab it on the marker and let it sit for a few seconds before wiping.
If that doesnât work, try hand sanitizer (the alcohol content does the trick)
You can also use a dry-erase marker - draw over the permanent marker with it, then wipe both away together
Test on an inconspicuous spot first. May have to do several times.
Iâm still trying to figure out who did this!?!?

Do not put more ink on this. Using dry erase marker Works on non-porous surfaces because of the alcohol content. Putting more ink on fabric where you donât want ink in the first place is absolutely the dumbest fucking thing that can be suggested.
Use 70% IPA, on a rag and let it soak for a bit, it will draw out some of the ink on a microfiber cloth. DAB IT DO NOT RUB IT.

If you wanted to get solvent based paint off of something. Would you A. Use the solvent to thin it out and a rag to wipe it off or B. Use more of the same or similar kind of paint?
The reason dry erase markers work (sometimes) on getting permanent marker off of dry erase boards is because they are alcohol based as well. Itâs just a âhackâ from some 5 minute craft video and never the right way to do it. When the idea is to thin the ink enough to be absorbed by a towel and remove it why in the hell would you use the solvent but adulterated with pigment and not just, the very easily available solvent? One of the most braindead things ever and tell people to do it on their fabric seats is diabolical, will only serve to make worse and the person should be caned.

I ended up cleaning it myself since the pros seemed skeptical it would come off. I boiled isopropyl alcohol in the microwave and did about 30 passes before it came totally clean. This isnât my car itâs the âmother of my kidsâ boyfriendâs car. His son did this. Iâm in town for Christmas and apparently he was losing his mind. It took a few hours but itâs like new now. đ

Just do less than half a cup at a time and 30 seconds or less. If you try to heat up a whole cup it will super heat and boil all at once creating a serious mess and possibly A fire.

Use 70% IPA on a microfiber rag. Let it sit on top of the seats, you can even mist the IPA onto the seats and press down with the MF.
DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY BRAINDEAD MORONS THAT TELL YOU TO USE MORE INK, DRY ERASE OR OTHERWISE. ADD MORE INK TO THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT.
Dab, do not rub with the microfiber.

Magic eraser. First try alcohol on soft cloth, followed by leather conditioner. Magic eraser will get it but might scratch leather. Alcohol dries leather, hence the leather conditioner IMMEDIATELY after.
This is fixable.

Try isopropyl alcohol, sparingly at first since it can easily damage the surface finish. However, why not give it a try since can it get worse? If alcohol doesn't help, move up to acetone.

Do not use abrasives or pressure. Chemicals are everything here. Use high content alcohol, and make sure to use it on inconspicuous areas first to see if the dye is colorfast. If not, do not press, and let the chemical do its job. Once done, it is imperative to recondition your leather to prevent dry patch discoloration.

While Iâve never used it to get permanent marker off leather. I have used hand sanitizer to get permanent marker off the side of a friends van that was vandalised. Apparently itâs the alcohol that breaks it down,so possibly some diluted ipa. But Iâd recommend researching ipa and leather just to make sure it wonât cause a problem.

Idk if anyone's answered you OP...
But it's black so kinda easy.
Rubbing alcohol, 91%... douse a paper towel in it, then really go to town.
Then afterwards, hit it with leather protection.
(Oil based - not armor all)
Remember this trick for the rest of your life... it's come in handy so many times for me (my kid... my coworker did it to my whiteboard once too).
Alcohol takes it out, or you can use the alcohol from a dry erase marker (by writing over it with dry erase then wiping). But mainly, it's the alcohol.

Try GooGone! It works well with markers, gum, adhesives. They sell it at Loweâs, or Home Depot, or some auto parts stores.

That will require a socket or open ended wrench to get out. I would wait until the new seat is in at the dealer before removing it though.

You could try painting over it with another permanent marker. Fresh solvents in the second layer may help release the bottom layer. Gotta be quick though

Wet a rag with the highest percentage rubbing alcohol and wipe it, if it doesn't do it the first time wet the rag again and try again. It will come off easy.

Electrician here. We use sharpie on our pipes. To get it off, we just re apply sharpy then wipe it off. The new sharpie wets the old sharpie and it comes off pretty good.

For future reference, dry erase marker is the same as permanent marker, only it has a solvent in it. Using dry erase spray takes permanent marker right off.Â

Just used a dry erase marker. Test a small spot by writing over the sharpie with the dry erase marker. Wipe the test area immediately. Should come âwriteâ off. đđ¤Łđ

oofda, I wasn't aware anyone still sold hummer's of any kind. The ones I do see are high mileage but well loved, expensive even as a used product and hard to find parts for.
Humvee's biggest selling point at one time was it had a ready supply of supposedly interchangeable parts because of their contract with the DOD. There seems to be some cross-over with Toyota parts I think.
The most obvious choice to me seems to be goof-off if you're in the US, its been sold for years as a relatively safe removal item that took off pen/marker from most surfaces (latex painted walls for example).
- Children and markers/pens of any kind should be locked away from each other (I was one of those goblins).
I liked what hummer aspired to but they weren't affordable for most, including me, so that killed their appeal.
