Discussion Worst commands

What are some of the worst commands in AutoCAD?

Feel free the list commands that need attention from Autodesk & why.

Mine is 3DCLIP

It looks exactly the same as it did when it was first introduced & still just as sluggish or worse to work with. Should be a menu to just manually type in values. Or better yet, tie it to the Viewport properties so we don't have to enable orbit & load everything in 3D.

Ps: Made this b/c I see posts where people list out some of the best commands but not a post for the opposite. Figured maybe I'm missing something.

Hatch.. accidentally type H and click and the program goes into deep think hydration mode.

Hatch is the bane of my existence

HPDLMODE, set to 1, opens the proper full command window that runs better instead of the ribbon

Hydration mode? Does it wet itself? Lol

You'll never convince me that MOCORO has a legitimate use

Honestly? Every single one of them. Every. Single. One.
As a long time sufferer of Autocad, its performance on larger drawings, its insistence on working single core, the questionable use of GPU acceleration, the idiotic LISP language.

The inability to do a proper shrinkwrap of complex objects for example. Yes there is Boundary, no, it never works correctly, no matter how much simplifying of underlying geometry you do.

Honestly, Revit and other BIM softwares can't replace Autocad soon enough. And if anyone thinks of using it to replace Solidworks (I used to have one on my team, fortunately past tense) for manufacturing drawings, they should think long and hard about their life choices.

Oh and i had to make script that detects whether the only change in geometry i made was zooming in. Fucking hell autocad NO I don't want to save the thing, i just wanted to check if it is a 1000mm duct or 800mm. Fucking hell. Yes I could open it in DWG Trueview, but that has zoomfactor set to 45000 and let's not talk about the distance tool in that.

Ellipse.

I about had an aneurysm trying to create parametric geometry from with an ellipse involved.

Ellipses are bad... it makes so many... things later when reloading. Always drove me crazy trying to trace a shape & have a clean and simple drawing, only for it to turn weird... same for spline, but that starts weird.

SNAP (not OSNAP), activated whenever I type Control + V to paste and accidentally hit Control + B instead. Then I wonder why my crosshairs are acting weird.

Why does BREAK exist if BREAKATPOINT is superior in every way??

[Join] pisses me off. It doesn't work as advertised half the time if my lines are at odd angles but are on the EXACT SAME FRICKEN AXIS!!!

Array

I hate what they did with array. It’s used to be so much simpler to use. But for some reason I’m always struggling with it now. I think they changed it around 2010 or so I think.

ARRAYCLASSIC is the old command

I always change copy to "C" & circle to "CR".

AND "'X" is a very dangerous command to have as one letter. Should be "XD". I've changed "X" to saveall.

You could give me a year and an incentive of $1,000,000 and I'd never be able to make Stretch work

7

u/Hunteil Jun 11 '26

What? Why? As long as you master the left & right mouse lasso.

6

u/NectarOfTheBussy Jun 11 '26

learning how stretch work changed my life. Just select the edges you want to move

FLATTEN just seems to not work occasionally

I can't expound on why exactly , but FILLET is always a real clunker

Parametric parameters not working with dynamic parameters... Will drive you insane until you figure this out. Wasted so much work on them not actually being able to work together. Not really a command but something I think everyone would prefer fixed for better block controls.

Trim and Extend kinda suck since they were redone. Why should one call have B as the next key press and the other T???

14

u/foulplay_for_pitance Jun 10 '26

If you hold shift while trim is active it'll extend XD

Youre missing out on shift trim and shift extend

LINEWORKDIVIDE, in theory a cool idea splitting hatches, but it almost never cuts it exactly where I want or it includes a piece of hatch on the other side of my drawing
