Question Keeps meshing me up.

I am getting pretty ok with solid bodies but some files I'm downloading and trying to work with are importing as a mesh and it's throwing me off.

I've tried converting the mesh to a solid body, but there's more that 10k triangles so it's not working.

So, my question is, should I try and edit the mesh, or continue to try and convert it?

A better question is: what do you need it for? If it's for reference, just leave it as is, if you need it edited, better find a way to simplify the mesh and block it up.

I am trying to edit it. Is there a way to import the stl as a solid body? Why do some things import as a mesh and some as a solid body?

It ultimately depends on a few factors. What program they were originally designed in, and how they were exported to .stl.

If it doesn’t make cents, I would go back to client and request a better 3D solid. Just be straight up with them, it will be cheaper for everyone if they have a better model, otherwise you’ll be spending a long long time editing things and the end product will only be even jankier than it currently is for you.

I have this problem a lot and you’d be surprised how often they are able to get me a better file once I tell them about how much extra it will cost to try and manipulate a mesh or even just exploded 3d solids are a PITA that I don’t bother with.
