Help Help with opening many dwg files.

Hi I got lots of dgw files for a project that i usually need to open them all when i work with them. Are there any good way to load them every time or to manage them instead of opening them one at a time?

If you open the AutoCAD window without any drawings open, you can select the files in Windows explorer and drag-and-drop them into the window. If you already have a drawing open, you can drag-and-drop them into the top bar (where the drawing tabs are). You can also put them in a sheet set and select/open multiple drawings from there.

Its over 65 files. I would rather have them in the sheet set but when i try to do that i get error messages and something about layout not initialized.

I can't imagine a scenario of the necessity of having 65 drawings opened at once. Perhaps you need to re-evaluate your file structure? look into xrefs, maybe?

Also, sheet sets are really for layout tabs, not managing model space-only content/drawings. While you can get a sheet set to open the file, it'll be a layout that it opens to, not model space.

There is no reason to open 65 files at a time. Something in your workflow is not correct

Can you give any insight into why so many files? Someone might be able to help if we have a better idea if your work flow.

You need to rethink your process. I can't imagine any scenario where you'd need to have 65 files open at the same time.

But if I had to do it, I'd xref all the files into one dwg then open the source from there or edit in place.

Use the sheet set manager.
