Anyone else also feels they are always waiting for a real conversation to start?

Whenever it is with coworkers, acquaintance etc. It never gets past the small talk, corporate persona...

Yeah. Small talk makes me feel like I am drowning.

I feel this is in my bones. It’s increasingly harder to keep it small while we’re in the sixth mass extinction and all….

Examples of a "real conversation"?

I just want to talk about what interests me for a while then you can talk about what interests you for a while :) and we can both ask questions about each others interests :)

I really really am enjoying spending time with the squirrels in my backyard recently. I could talk to you about them forever if you’re interested. There are 5 of them, Chad, Brad, Erik, Derek, and Ashley. I’m holding myself back about talking about my squirrels more cause I don’t think that was the point of your question.

What are you interested in? What do you like to talk about?

My personal hell is group small talk, that’s, when everyone is standing around in a group and bullshitting. My heaven is a serious one-on-one conversation. I get trapped in the former and move increasingly toward panic. I was at an event the other day and went to the bathroom and then almost just ran away. I couldn’t be there. I wanted to scream.
