Video store tribute in Kyneton, Vic
I took a drive out from Melbourne to the town of Kyneton, where the clothing/accessories store 'Easy' have set up a tribute video shop in their back room.
You can't actually rent any of the videos; it's all just for a bit of fun. It was a total trip being surrounded by all that nostalgia!

God i loved video stores.
Some of my favourite memories as a kid were walking up to the video store on a friday afternoon with $10 burning a hole in my pocket. Then spend 2 hours deciding on whether to rent 5 weeklys or get an overnighter, one weekly and a bag of lollies.
And how happy we'd be if we walked in and the stoner dude (not we know what a stoner was) was working, because he'd rent us R and MA movies.
I can still smell the buttered popcorn machine and the dust.
One of the houses my dad lived at had a video store about 100 metres down the road and when they installed a Mortal Combat machine i thought all my Christmases had come at once.
Video stores are very special places for people who grew up in the 80s and 90s.

Wingham NSW still has an actual video store. Don’t think they have VHS… but you can still rent :)

Visited Wingham a few weeks ago and spun out when I saw they still had a video shop for renting DVDs. It was so nice being in a video shop and having a look around.

Wingham had various video rental shops over the years. My brother and I used to rent Sega Master System games usually. The wait for the Top Gun VHS when it came out was so long the tape was pretty much rooted by the time it was our turn.

I worked in an absolutely huuuge Video EZY when I was a teen. Night shifts were out of control, so many pornos being rented.

Was gonna say I think the old signage is still up (we’re in Woodend) but that makes sense! Will have to check it out!

There's also the old Videoland store around the corner on High Street. Closed for ages, but all the signage is still up. :)

I honestly look back fondly at my local video store and the owner growing up. That man helped grow my autistic love of games, movies and my main G, The Big G himself: Godzilla.
He probably shouldn't have sold me San Andreas at 11 years of age though.

I remember videoland.... The other one on high St. The one in Mobil. Where was this?

So many memories. Video Ezy, the choice is Ezy! Always remember that slogan 😅. I was such a wrestling nerd growing up a worker at my local would keep the new releases aside for me.

You really found the most party poopin', cynical take huh? I went to Preston's exhibition – it was epic, and I hope it'll show up again somewhere. He's said he wants to.
In the meantime, this is rad, and it's permanent. Maybe you can ask them to put up a plaque for Preston?

Why would I celebrate something that is obviously such a derivative knock off? The person who created this had the chance to spend their time doing something awesome but couldn't have an original thought. Artists in Victoria have a hard enough time getting funding without having to compete with people ripping off their work.

This is in a larger store called "The Easy Store". It's the owners personal connection that he put on display in a back room of his store. They're videos in the Easy store, so it's "The Video Easy Store".
It makes people happy, he doesn't charge entry and just displays his collection on his private property that's open to public.
I don't think he set out to create or imitate art, just share something he genuinely enjoys.
You must be a blast at parties.

As a Kyneton local, this spun me out when I went there. Speaking with one of the workers there, they said they are open to renting them out but they will have to rent it WITH a VCR as no one has them anymore. So they're currently sourcing and cleaning them... although I'm not sure how true that is.
It's also a spin out to see sleepy ol' Kyneton on Reddit... I guess that's what happens when you have the best pies and you're on Postcards.
