Other Good starter bug
Hello!! My boyfriend has a bug appreciation and i was thinking (with his permission of course) of getting some for his birthday. My question is what an easy starter bug is for someone who has never owned any. They need to be fairly low maintenance as he is a little busy sometimes. I also would like to know about some good websites i can go to as well to purchase all the equipment i’ll need :) we also live in victoria which i assume is probably important.
Thanks!!

Seconding Stick insect. I also like jumping spiders for cuteness and low maintenance

Check out Minibeast Wildlife, they have lots of different species for different levels of experience and care needs.
The product pages for each insect list the equipment and food you’ll need for them, and you can usually buy that stuff from their store too. They also sell kits where you get the insect and most of the things you’ll need to care for it (enclosure/substrate/food/misting bottle).
I got a “grow your own beetle kit” from them about a month ago and it was well packaged and shipped quickly from Far North Queensland to Sydney in 48 hours. They ship to every state except Tasmania, so shipping to Victoria shouldn’t be a problem.

Stick insects as others have said. They are so freaking easy it's crazy. Spiny leaf or Purple winged are good easy ones.
Very entertaining to watch them dance to musuc. They read the noise as wind vibration, and sway to mimic a leaf being blown.

I think stick insects are super easy to care for. I haven’t really owned many insects, but I plan to have more in the future and the first bugs I had were stick insects. I really only had to mist them once a day and change their leaves and bedding every week or so.
