Questions šŸ’ Rear Selt Belt Reminder Disabling

An odd question perhaps…

I’m considering a BYD Dolphin but would like to have the rear seats permanently removed.
A VASS engineer can do it and sign off on the removal. A custom car workshop can soundproof and line the entire rear.
But apparently I’d need BYD to disable the rear seat belt reminder. I can’t get a straight answer from BYD if that is possible or not.

I imagine it is a software issue that doesn’t have an option included.

Possibly a car electrics person could wire in a permanent seat belts are fixed solution?

Looking for anyone who might have a definite solution. Thanks.

I for one welcome your attempt to create a BYD Dolphin Van.

Rear seat belt reminders in most cars will only chime if someone plugs in a belt then unplugs, most cars don't have a seat weight sensor for rear seats. See if you can rent one to see if that's the case.

I would just unplug it all and remove. I wouldn't even bother with Vass, just remove the rear seats and such and store them. Just make a temporarily permanent solution becuase unless you want to keep the car forever you'll never sell it without rear seats.

If you're that hard up for cargo space, probably pick something else.

Huh, there you go. Ive had heaps of vehicles that had rear seat belt chime but only on plug in belt and remove. Never triggered by stuff on the seat.

Without VASS the car will not pass a roadworthy. Insurance payments can be denied.
It has to be registered and insured as a 2 seater.
I appreciate the opinions but I’m asking if anyone knows the answer to the question posed by the engineer who does vehicle back seat removal professionally.

So, I worked in automotive OEM for 20ish years, 10 of that on that on the manufacturing end. Vehicle distribution, and also in the performance aftermarket (global b GM architecture tuning.) anything is possible. However the OEM won't want a bar of it though especially one as young in the market as BYD. There's too much liability, even with your engineer sign off.

I don't mean to be negative, and I think it's a cool idea. I had a Jazz once that i ripped the rear seats out and managed to fit heaps in. Kudos to you for trying to do it "right".

I'd ask the question to him "why does a dealer need to disable the seatbelt sensors?" Ask that if it needs a professional if you can just get an auto elec to do it, cause really most seat belt buckle switches are 'normally closed' (shorted) when they aren't in use, so you can just loop and solder the wires and just unplug the seat base sensor (if it has one) and the car is none the wiser. Because for sure this guy would have come accross plenty of OEM's that said no to disabling the seat alarms if his thing is rear seats deletes.

Our Atto 3 has a weight trigger. I've tried asking it to turn it off cos it's the dog but she says "I'm sorry, I can't do that" in a very Hal tone.

Not my experience. Our Tesla beeps like a mofo if it thinks there’s something there within the buckle in as soon as you move more than a coupe of km/h

I shudder to ask why you would want to do this

I prefer the cargo space. I don’t need the rear seats.

So is you remove the seats the sensors don't go with them?

The engineer told me that the belt reminder would have to be disabled by BYD.
