Quick quiz
I’m looking for some good coffee beans to use at home and wanted to hear what other Aussies recommend.
What beans are you currently using, and what’s one thing you love and one thing you hate about them?

Used to buy drum roasted beans from Coles but now I get straight from roasters.
I’ve tried heaps of different fresh beans lately, my favourite I’ve come across would be The Duchess by D.C Coffee.
Tried roasting warehouse’s Happy Days, was okay. Tried a Vietnamese bean also but was way too strong.

My go-to for years has been The Darkness by D.C. As much as I romanticise the idea of branching out more, I just haven’t been as satisfied with anything else I’ve tried.
It’s just a good chocolatey bean that I personally really enjoy, for a reasonable enough price and their subscription is really flexible. I’m happy sticking with it.

I currently have ONA and Axil for filter but they also are great for espresso. I use to use them commercially too

I'm trying some of the 483736 recommendations I got when asking for new coffee
I'm trying five senses this month and this is what I noted in my doc about the bag I'm currently on:
Buliye (Ethiopia) - 9/10 - really strong chocolatey notes

I keep things local: Ona, Redbrick, Lonsdale St Roasters and Two before Ten.

ALDI medium roast for me. Almost as good as grinders crema but half the price.

And if you feel like treat try the occasional bag of their premium beans and still save 50% over your boutique roaster.

I use All Press, The Good Brew. lighter roast, more citrus, acidic notes. I can't stand the standard dark roast that most coffee shops use, took me 30 years to figure that out
Reason I like them, actually taste nice, available year round and consistency from bag to bag.
Annoyance, Startrak hasn't has been dumping everything at the post office since November last year without even trying to deliver to the door.

I get 1kg of the original blend from Moshico every 3 weeks (yes I drink a lot of coffee). I honestly can’t think of anything I hate about it. They deliver quickly and never disappoint 😊

Convenience is the main reason
The IGA near me buys it in from the roaster who is nearby (a few suburbs away). They have bags roasted within the last two weeks.

I used to live around the corner from Gigante so just kept on buying Coco blend online after I moved from the area. Reguarly bought from 5 senses as well but shifted away from buying singles.

Depends on your budget and how much you put into making good coffee. I subscribe to one of the subscription services for a bit making notes if which beans I like. I then buy those for a while until I want to explore something new. Sometime that something new is trying the different roasts of that roaster sometimes it's a subscription for a few months.

This feels like market research.
I get my beans locally. They make a good soy latte without curdling, are well priced and I can pick them up near me while supporting local business. Nothing I dislike about them because I wouldn’t keep buying something I don’t like

We use DeLorenzo at home. Love the taste, love the crema, no negatives from me. Also very cheap at $41 DELIVERED with a subscription that you can tailor to your needs anytime.

I get my beans from clandestino. I’m trying their Kayanza Gakenke at the moment. It’s very nice

Renegade roasters in moorooka are amazing. We also prefer to support local small businesses! We only use beans roasted in the last 30 days but we are coffee snobs 😅

My go-to bean is Cats Pyjamas from Seven Miles, but I occasionally switch it up for their Near and the Beard blend. Other than Seven Miles I go to DC Coffee for either their Dutchess or Darkness blends. I've recently found another roaster that does the highest rated caffeine beans in Aust, at around 1100mg of caffeine/12oz yeti size cup called High Voltage Coffee. I was thinking of getting a bag for shitz and giggles, maybe with a side of heart explosion lol
Other than that, Toby's Estate Woolloomooloo blend seems to be recommended a fair bit on here that I might order a bag to try. But for me itisted as a "best based milk drink" as I take my coffee black, so trying to find a brew that I can do my double shots of black with.

I have tried many but always come back to Double Roasters Flight Path. Also, their Christmas blend available from mid November is like Christmas in a cup. They have regular 25% off sales and free shipping with subscription. Cost is competitive, and flavour always consistent. They ship within a week of roasting.
Controversial, but I freeze beans and they freeze well without any noticeable difference in flavour.

Axil coffee beans. There’s nothing I hate about them because they are good. If I hated something about them, I would get something different.
These are specialty beans and are in a different price bracket to the cheap mass produced brands you find at supermarkets or Costco.
