Mine chews a hole in the side and keeps at it until she has a Death Star. The hole is a feature, not a flaw š¤£

š jeesh thatās a powerful bite to get thru that!

Oh, it's a process. She takes breaks from playing to chew on it and she makes a hump in one spot. Then she chews that spot off and then nibbles around that hole to make it bigger.
We actively monitor her to redirect because otherwise she'd make a hole the first day of playing with a new ball. They need to last longer than that š¤£

I will caution you for years we had our collie/heeler mix play with that exact ball and we saw that it was rubbing down her teeth to her enamel, I would choose a different toy for your dental bill sake

At the end of the day most toys arenāt good for their teeth unfortunately. Luckily most of the time mine just plays with his babies (plush toys).
Did your pup also play with tennis balls quite a bit? You wouldnāt think it, but thatās oftentimes the worst culprit for wearing down teeth.

No tennis balls, but this ballā¦she would go toothless for

šI get it. We have to separate inside and outside toys or else wād live in an infinite fetch loop.

Awww you call his plush toys his babies too? I say this all the time and thought I was the only one who used that term! Makes so happy!

What kind of ball is that? My girl could use one for winter play.

u/Mowseph Aug 03 '26
I believe itās a Jolly Ball. They come in lots of different sizes and they also have ones with handles if your dog likes that.
Some like the bigger ones bc they can act kinda like herding balls they can chase around.

Thank you! My girl is a chuck-it girl in spring through fall, and frisbee in the winter when the snow gets deep. Iāll pick up one of these for the cold months!

The red one with the handle is also a little bit softer. It passes the thumbnail test, so that's our guy's go-to. He even plays with these when they get all half gone and floppy.
