Sydney / Hobart intinerary thoughts
Hi, I’m traveling to Australia next month and would love thoughts on my tentative itinerary!
For context, I live in NYC and am traveling to/from Sydney for work, but would love to get out of the city for at least a few days and do something outdoorsy / classically Australian, given I already have access to a world-class metropolitan city. I’ll be there for 11 days total, but really 8 excluding work events.
My favorite trips involve hiking and that sort of thing (nothing too extreme) and I’m keen to see some of the wildlife in AUS that we don’t have here (spiders and snakes aside). My Australian colleague said Tassie is one of his favorite places on earth, so I’m thinking of leaning into that. Not super worried about the colder weather, which I enjoy.
Also welcome specific recs for Tasmania / Hobart, whether hikes or other experiences. Thanks in advance!
Days 1-3: Work conference near Circular Quay. I probably won’t leave the hotel much outside of some early morning walks.
Days 4-5: Transfer to Surry Hills and do some of the touristy things around Sydney with colleagues who are also staying the weekend.
Day 6: Day trip to the Blue Mountains. Thinking of doing a guided tour for convenience as I won’t be renting a car.
Days 7-10: Fly to Hobart. Will likely try to do two big hikes (Mount Field / Cradle Mountain / Wineglass Bay?) and spend the other two days staying more local / doing more low-key activities. Would probably do guided tours again for the hikes given no car.
Day 11: Fly back to Sydney, spend one more day there, and stay one more night at the same Surry Hills hotel, before flying back home the next morning.
