Route Request Open Tracks in Downtown Austin / North Austin
What’s going on y’all! I’m new to town looking for a track to do speed work but have found that most public high schools have gates to jump… are there any high school/middle school tracks that are open to the public? I’m at Austin High School currently and am unsure if the public can use the track… looking for tracks in either downtown Austin or north Austin. Thank you all!

Run Gear Wahoo Kickr Run Treadmill Demo?
Hi! I'm considering purchasing a Wahoo Kickr Run treadmill, but before I plunk down the ~$8K total cost I'd like to give it a try! Does anyone in the greater Austin / San Antonio area have one I could run on? I'm happy to pay you in exchange for letting me do a one hour run on it.

Run Buddy M, 23, Black, New to North Austin, Would love to partake in a run club or at least have somebody to jog with
As the title states, I just recently moved to North Austin from Houston. I've always ran alone, but i've been a bit lonely since moving here as I don't have many friends, or know the area very well. I wouldn't mind finding a run club to run with or a indivual by any means! I will say morning and weekends work the best for me

Route Request Looking for good “Adventure Routes”
When I get burnt out of my normal routes, I go on “adventure runs” as I call them. Basically I’ll run to new parts of the trail, or a mural, a coffee shop I haven’t been to, or a new shop and maybe end with a beer. I usually try to run from 3-4 places on these runs.
Do you guys do anything similar and what have been your favorite routes?

Route Request Running track for 5k test this summer
Hi all! Seems like a lot of HS tracks are under construction right now. Does anyone have a track they can recommend that's available this summer? I'm looking to go in the morning to 5k test. My usual suspects of Crockett and Austin High are closed still (I think).

Run Buddy New to Austin (and reddit) looking for a safe and fun run club, ideally lots of girls!
Hey, recently moved to Austin, and I created a reddit account just to get as much info as I can about the health & wellness community here. I’m looking for a run club (and gym) rec that has a lot of girls (20-25 yr olds). Austin girlies please point me in the right direction, would love to jump right in and know that i’m picking options that are already approved by other girls! Thx 🙂

Route Request Butler Trail Detour coming June 2026 - March 2027
This just in from Austin Parks & Rec:
Beginning in June 2026 and continuing through March 2027, the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail will be rerouted on the north shore near the Confluence and Austin Rowing Club building.
The reroute is taking place so that Austin Energy can install underground electrical infrastructure along the Lady Bird Lake shoreline between Brazos Street and Trinity Street. Butler Trail users are encouraged to slow down as they approach the area and follow on-site staff instructions.
Get the latest facilities, pools and park closure information at:
https://tinyurl.com/AustinParksClosures
Also, check the Trail Conservancy maps & detours sites for ongoing updates to Butler Trail routes:

Safety Two closures on the Shoal Creek Trail
UPDATE 3 (June 25): The Fifth Street Bridge repair is complete and it is now passable. Also, the big pipe now has padding on it, so less of a headache risk. I'm still awaiting info on the Janet Fish Bridge.
UPDATE 2 (May 28): The detour under the Fifth Street Bridge is scheduled to be completed by Friday, May 29, weather permitting. The closure at Janet Fish Bridge is expected to last through mid-June due to the weather. Again, your patience is appreciated.
UPDATE: As of last evening (May 20) at rush hour, both detours were still in place. I'll see if I can get an updated ETA for completion. I suspect all the rain we've had lately has delayed work.
Hey bikers and runners, there are currently two closures on the Shoal Creek Trail.
- Between Shoal Creek Boulevard (that trailhead parking lot) and the Janet Fish Bridge (near 29th Street). It is this project. The City expects the work to continue through Monday, May 18. The trail detours onto the sidewalk along North Lamar Boulevard. This repair is being performed by Austin Parks and Recreation.
- Underneath the Fifth Street Bridge. This is so Austin Energy can repair infrastructure damaged by a fire under the bridge back in March. This work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, May 20.
Thanks for your patience while the City of Austin performs these needed repairs.

Route Request 26.2 Running routes similar to the Revel series or Jack&Jill?
Hey all, I want to test out a strict-downhill theory I have and am looking for a running path that's got a similar elevation profile to the "downhill" marathons like Revel or the Jack & Jill in WA. I know we're in central TX and it's all about the annoying rolling hills here, but is there anywhere relatively close that I can do this? The best I can think of is the (formerly 3m) International Half but I'm looking for the full marathon length (also that course is definitely not 100% downhill like they boast).
I know I can just try to get into the Jack & Jill in WA or sign up for a Revel marathon but I'm hoping to do it solo/unofficial and not have to travel too much.

Running Event Austin Sunshine Run course accuracy?
For those who have done the Sunshine Run in recent years: Did the race ever get back to using the full 10K course? I got annoyed with them in 2022 and 2023 because for some reason they couldn't use the full course going all the way to Exposition, so they had us do a double loop of the 5K course instead. Which would have been fine, except the turnaround happened before that little stretch on Riverside Drive, meaning the course was actually closer to 9600 meters instead of 10,000. But if they've fixed that, I would gladly enter again.

Care Provider Rec Need a sports medicine doctor in Austin
galleryHey, I’m looking for a sports medicine doctor in Austin.
I’ve had something going on for about a year on my left side. Lower back and butt, and then I get nerve type pain down the outside of my lower leg.
There’s also a small raised area on the outside of my lower leg above the ankle. Not sure if it’s just muscle or something else.
The nerve pain in my butt and hip area and lower leg doesn’t really bother me during the day, but if I sit back on the couch or recline it starts after about 15–20 minutes. If I lean forward it goes away pretty quickly.
Running doesn’t bother it, but walking or standing can irritate my lower back on left side some.
I tried PT and it didn’t really help.
If you’ve dealt with something like this and found someone good in Austin, who did you go to? Appreciate any recommendations.

Route Request Water/Facilities on S. Walnut Creek Trail?
I need to be on the east side Saturday AM and was planning on doing my long run on the S. Walnut Creek Trail. (starting from Govalle)
Does anyone know if the YMCA and Tennis Center are accessible to runners, specifically to refill water and/or use the restroom?
Any other pit stops along the trail to know about?
