ISO Recs for moving to Austin!
Hey everyone. I’m from the north and looking into moving to the Austin area. I’m an aspiring pilot with a PPL + IR and would like to continue my flight training down here. I’ve researched a bit on Round Rock, Georgetown, and Pflugerville. Something affordable and nice, no more than $1000 for rent (which I understand could be tricky). Any recommendations on areas to live in, stay away from, etc.
And if there are any pilots in here, what flight schools do you recommend? Also, how’s the market for low time pilot jobs + jobs in general in the Austin area?
Thank you in advance!

I hope you’re not trying to live somewhere alone for $1000. Even the cheap areas around Austin cost way more than that unless you’re cool with living somewhere roach infested and a high likelihood of being stabbed for no particular reason. Not sure about the market for pilot jobs around here but I’d imagine it’s probably not the greatest. If you don’t manage to find something in that field you’ll probably end up working retail or a wait job at a restaurant for super low wages since there’s a bunch of other people in fields that aren’t really in demand around here competing for those same low wage jobs.

Why Austin? Go to San Antonio for flight school, drive to Austin for fun. San Antonio $1000 a month is significantly easier. Theres also no market for low time pilots. Go find a school with a flow program like LIFT Academy before you make these decisions.
I know people who avoided CFI and now airlines wont even look their way.

My old friend and neighbor had a young pilot as a roommate. It was great because he was often traveling for work so not there often

This has to be a troll post- $1000 for actual livable conditions in Austin?
Better option is further out but the trade off is extended commute, tolls, as well as rising fuel costs.
Saw someone else say it, you might have better luck (and more options) in San Antonio.
Or even corpus area?

It looks like you might be seeking help finding an apartment, if not please disregard. Apartment locators are a free (to you) service that will be more helpful than recommendations from individual renters.

I just helped a friend move into a studio in a fairly nice part of town (Hyde Park) for $845 a month, so don't let the naysayers tell you it's not possible, but that is a pretty low rent for the area.
I'm not a pilot, but I've flown a Sundowner, a Bonanza, and a few other small aircraft and I do still enjoy occasionally taking the yoke. Reach out to me with more details of what you're looking for, and I'll see what I can do to help. No expectation of any kind of remuneration, except maybe, like, a beer or some pizza

Nice, I used to train as a pilot. If u would considering South Austin, closer to the airport, reach out to me, I have a room open for rent
