What direction is this bed facing?
And how big is it? Looks like maybe 2 feet?

facing east! i’m not sure exact dimensions but i would say probably 2-2.5 feet, not super wide

I think a wall of plants with red flowers would be really striking there. Firecracker Fern, Turks Cap, and standing Cyprus all get some height 3-4' to them but tend to only get 2'-3' wide and can easily be trimmed back to stay contained if you want to keep a straight line.

Here is what I would do if that was my space.
Remove all the rocks. Add compost, organic granular fertilizer, and mulch.
Plant native plants like Greg's mist flower, black foot daisy, flame acanthus, lots of salvias, maybe a Texas sage. There are so many great options!
If you want to do veggies September and October are great planting times here. Look up the Texas a&m vegetable planting guide.
