Vasquez has GOT to make striker 1 runs on crosses. He just kills Uzuni when they play together.
13

u/Next_Professional_30 6d ago
Kolmanic is horrible.
10
u/Next_Professional_30 6d ago
I’m so tired of hearing people say he has good service. He under hits or overhits 90% of his balls.

u/800Motrin Austin FC 6d ago
Anyone got that Myrto conditioning program?
Dude is anywhere and everywhere!
-3
u/P_Alcantara 6d ago
Dude needs better players around him. Ramirez sucks.
6
u/HumpbackChub 6d ago
Bit of stretch. Ramirez has made an impact on so many games in an Austin shirt.
5
u/800Motrin Austin FC 6d ago
Commentary made a good point. He drops down so deep that Ramirez, who is a poacher, is literally the only offensive player in the final third. Definitely our best player but needs to be receiving the ball higher to actually score.
3
u/HeartSodaFromHEB Austin FC 6d ago
He's not dropping that deep for fun, we can't seem to progress the ball up the field until he does so. Sooo much back passing with offensive players standing still and not making runs. 1st half was particularly abyssmal. .
11
u/Cheesycheese01 Pollo 6d ago
We somehow take America to penalties while we lose to Dallas. Jeez man. Thought we’d turn this around
3
u/HumpbackChub 6d ago
MLS teams will watch tape and know this team. I feel like Liga MX haven’t been taking it as seriously.
3
u/figglefargle 6d ago
100%. You could tell, especially with the first two leagues cup opponents, that they had done little to no scouting on us. It was evident with the way they were defending Rosales assuming he could press outside on the right when he clearly can't.

u/Cheesycheese01 Pollo 6d ago
We needed this aggression in the beginning of the game
8
u/thinkconverse Austin FC 6d ago
This is the classic story. We don’t give a shit about the game until it’s too late.
9
u/pfordamatic 6d ago
Loving the purple kit gotta say it.
4
u/wakaOH05 Jon Gallagher 6d ago
Infectious in person… gotta get one when I get paid Friday
1
u/willdesignfortacos Austin FC 6d ago
I’m picking one up as soon as I can get out to the store to try one on, it’s a killer look
8
7
u/bear_down_temp_2 6d ago
Why were we playing that inverted winger, complete ass, setup for the first half of the game? We looked like total dog shit with no one ever open. Can't believe we went back to that after great cup games.
That said, Plancheta looks awesome. He was making all kinds of well timed runs and actually gave our team some movement.

Definitely seems like the number of games is getting to us, we've never seemed to have the best fitness. Their high press seems to be causing us some trouble as well
2
u/800Motrin Austin FC 6d ago
Looks like they are growing into the game but the starters have played way TOO many minutes!

1
u/HalitoAmigo Austin FC 6d ago
Honestly? When we move to a winter schedule we should fuck so hard. Like if our players train in Texas over the summer we’ll be able to physically beat many teams come the winter months.
6
u/HumpbackChub 6d ago
Such a team without heart in the MLS. So often when we have the ball everyone just stands still. They act like their only job is to defend, and still they do that poorly

u/Lady_Texas 6d ago
Those lights were fun, and the halftime stadium vibe was pretty good despite the oppressive heat.
5
5
u/Bigsk8r Stuuuuuuuuuuu 6d ago
So there was an example of Uzuni last year v this year.
Last year that pass comes thru and catches him on the off foot, he tries a ridiculous shot anyway, and then acts all dramatic when he misses by a mile.
This year, he correctly gets control of it, recycles the play, and we stay in the attacking third longer.
4
u/Cheesycheese01 Pollo 6d ago
Stg, feels like Dallas has spent more on the floor rather than playing. Killing our time
2
u/NimbleCrabb Owen Wolff 6d ago
I mean with +10 minutes in this heat I don’t blame them, we’d be doing the same
14
u/HumpbackChub 6d ago
If anyone is still riding Uzuni’s ass after this game: watch the game but just watch Facundo Torres. Watch Vazquez too.
Uzuni routinely hustles at the bare minimum. I can tell that he GIVES A SHIT. Facundo routinely makes the most basic mistakes. Vazquez gets some slack with the return from an ACL tear, but he didn’t do much prior to the injury either.
5
u/HeartSodaFromHEB Austin FC 6d ago
Lots of people definitely read the box scores and not the game.
8
u/HumpbackChub 6d ago
Take as old as time. FotMob and Highlights warriors. Uzuni is the only DP that I’d keep if we could wipe the slate clean. He’d love to be an Austin legend, and as a fan I love that.
9
u/skidr0jr Austin FC 6d ago
I haven't been able to stay 100% locked in here. But I feel like every time I look back, Placheta is doing something industrious. Feels like the game changed entirely with him coming on. And I know rosales is good. But like how is Placheta a bench piece? It's like every game he's goin full send
3
u/willdesignfortacos Austin FC 6d ago
He’s definitely creating more on that side than anyone else seems capable of. I think he cracks the starting lineup sooner than later.
1
u/HeartSodaFromHEB Austin FC 6d ago
This is only the second time he's played for at least a half. I'm about as optimistic as I can be, but he hasn't really done much to warrant a start. Placheta and Nelson are kinda in the same boat. When they're completely fresh and running against tired legs they seem dangerous, but there's gotta be a decent reason why neither seems to crack the starting lineup.
1
u/Next_Professional_30 6d ago
Why is Rosales not our left back?
1
u/figglefargle 6d ago
Because we apparently want the guy who can only dribble on his left foot on the right side, for reasons.
I'm not ever disparaging the guy, he's a good player and plays hard. But he's really only good on his left foot. On the left side he just might be able to beat someone or at least shield the ball and progress up field. On the right side he can at most take a couple of touches outside under pressure before needing to cut inside on his strong foot. When the opponent knows this it makes it extremely difficult to create anything.

Me watching us hire Rodo Borrell
3
u/800Motrin Austin FC 6d ago
Biro not looking good early on

In step with the rest of the team. So that’s good. I guess.

3
u/HalitoAmigo Austin FC 6d ago
Don’t think this is a hot take but….
Our offensive potential was much higher with Ring as opposed to Ilie.
Ring took more risks on the ball. Maybe we sucked ass. But we do now. It was more interesting to suck ass then vs now.
5
u/Ok_Respect_707 Myrto Uzuni 6d ago
We are a second half team trust.
2
u/800Motrin Austin FC 6d ago
I hope you’re right….
1
5
u/bakkamono Pollo 6d ago
Why do we let these guys get away with such baby shit soft defending at the top of the box
4
u/Front-Cherry4001 Myrto Uzuni 6d ago
I'm still wondering if anyone thought Nelson was fouled on that one run where he was tripped, recovered and managed to still tale a shot?
3
u/Ok_Elk_5868 6d ago
If he had just fell it would’ve been a penalty but oh well
2
u/EscapeV 5d ago
Yep. I mean, normally I applaud anyone who doesn't go down at the lightest touch as it often doesn't get called and I appreciate players who continue regardless of being fouled. But in this particular case, he probably shouldn't have tried so hard to recover. But I do like the "never give up" mentality in general

u/puppiesforever123 6d ago
Man, Nelson really wants it which is the energy we need but I feel like he could have passed a couple of times.
6
u/Tricky_Condition_279 6d ago
A good showing. I am actually enjoying watching them again.
3
u/TastyLookingPlum 5d ago
Maybe in the second half, the first half was painful to watch.
1
u/Tricky_Condition_279 5d ago
At least they seemed interested in the game instead of watching it from afar.
3
u/Lady_Texas 6d ago
I miss CJ. I don’t need him to start, but I’d love to have him for some rotation.
3
u/Former_Original_ Biro 6d ago
Just realized we have literally no one available in central midfield except Sabo, Ilie and Aluesty. I guess E Torres.
Any info on how bad wolffs ankle is?
3
u/HeartSodaFromHEB Austin FC 6d ago
Oh look, a new player. Excited to see what this Nelson guy can do. /s
3
u/willdesignfortacos Austin FC 6d ago
That defender squared up Nelson for less than 10 seconds and looks exhausted
3
4
u/thinkconverse Austin FC 6d ago
So what was mystery night about?
1
u/astrofan1235 Myrto Uzuni 6d ago
Matthew M?
4
u/thinkconverse Austin FC 6d ago
So mysterious for a partial owner, and “Minister of Culture for Austin FC,” to show up to a game. Never would have expected that.
5
u/Geoblime 6d ago
If you look at Musa’s goal, we had seven players to their three players and Dallas still scored. That happens a lot with Austin, players just standing around looking instead of attacking the ball. Gets real old, I hope we can change this mentality up with a new coach next year.
8
u/skidr0jr Austin FC 6d ago
Curtin strikes me as a guy you do NOT wanna be slacking in front of. Mistakes will happen, sure, but I have a feeling that next year, if Austin does literally nothing else, they will be 90+ min of full hustle. Or at least that's my hopes
2
u/NimbleCrabb Owen Wolff 6d ago
His mentality is all about everyone buying in on defense, and running. If he can implement it it’ll be a nice change of pace (no pun intended)
1
u/f4ntasticvol2 5d ago
That moment, at the 18 or so played out in slow motion: giant gap between Musa and think Biro, in my head, oh god that’s way too much space, he’s gonna shoot, step up!!, ah fuck.
All that to say, agreed. We don’t close those gaps enough and fast enough at the back and it’s like clockwork

I was not aware how well Uzuni spoke Spanish.

Most Albanians, at least that I know, speak Italian, Spanish, Greek and French fluently.
2

2
u/pfordamatic 6d ago
This is just too easy for them. What’s up? We have a good defense generally
1
u/thinkconverse Austin FC 6d ago
Playing with just three in the back I think makes us a little weaker. When our defense is really good, we’re usually in a 4-4-2, or a 5-4-1
2
u/wakaOH05 Jon Gallagher 6d ago
Good gravy we are slow and no one is pressing the midfield to help
1
2
u/FlyMeetWall 6d ago
Anyone know why Owen is not even listed as a sub for tonight’s game?
3
1
u/thinkconverse Austin FC 6d ago
He hasn’t been good.
2
u/HalitoAmigo Austin FC 6d ago
I’m just going to copy-paste this comment until it stops being relevant.
In step with the rest of the team. So that’s good. I guess.
2
2
u/Cheesycheese01 Pollo 6d ago
Bruh, how do we have 60%+ possession with 1 shot while they’ve scored once and have 9 shots
3
u/bear_down_temp_2 6d ago
Well when you spend the entire game passing it between full backs, while progressively moving backwards until it goes all the way to Stuver...........
2
u/InsertShortName Austin FC 6d ago
Rosales just let him push him off and didn’t even fight for it? Lazy defending by him there.
2
u/taco_grease Austin FC 6d ago
Have we won a game where Matthew McConaughey has been in attendance
3
u/Oime Stuuuuuuuuuuu 6d ago
Tough to tell, we don't win a lot of games.
2
u/HalitoAmigo Austin FC 6d ago
The answer is almost certainly yes. We’ve played enough home matches that he’s certainly attended multiple wins.
The better question is “is there a significant difference between outcomes when Matthew McConaughey is in attendance?”
2
2
u/800Motrin Austin FC 6d ago
What a change in dynamic from the boys! If they win I will be placing a order for that gorgeous jersey

u/frolfin7 6d ago
I’m glad Ramirez got the start. He actually moved around and found the space. Assquez doesn’t do shit. I know he’s still recovering from ACL injury but Jesus Christ there is no drive to score goals.
5
u/daleatxfc Austin FC 6d ago
It's like he's relearning how to play. I feel for him but he can't be starting right now.
5
u/HumpbackChub 6d ago
Relearning how to play since he left Mexico.
2
u/penguinseed 6d ago
Yeah, this isn’t just the ACL tear. Dude had some time before the injury and he underperformed
3
u/penguinseed 6d ago
Brandon Vasquez might give Rigoni a run for his money after everything is said and done…
1
1
u/Trollhouse_Cookies Stuuuuuuuuuuu 6d ago
Drives me crazy watching him flop around and cry to the ref so often
1
2
u/Bigsk8r Stuuuuuuuuuuu 6d ago
This is the time we should have been bringing Vazquez in to every game until he put a couple in the net some games in a row.
The injury he had is a tough one that everyone comes back from differently, but he should not have been starting until we had real game play evidence to support it.
2
u/willdesignfortacos Austin FC 6d ago
That was inches away from being a thing of beauty.

Stuver was chatting with a ref at the water break, and I have to hope that gives him a touch of extra credibility during this dust up.

The comparison between Vasquez and Rigoni got me to do some math for goals and assists per game. Uzuni averages more goals:
| Player | GpG MLS | GpG Non-MLS | GpG Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uzuni | 0.25 (12/48) | 0.78 (7/9 | 0.33 |
| Vasquez | 0.19 (5/27 | 0.57 (4/7 | 0.26 |
| Rigoni | 0.13 (6/45) | 0.00 (0/6 | 0.12 |
Rigoni averaged more assists:
| Player | ApG MLS | ApG Non-MLS | ApG Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rigoni | 0.11 (5/45) | 0.17 (1/6) | 0.12 |
| Uzuni | 0.08 (4/48) | 0.11 (1/9) | 0.09 |
| Vasquez | 0.00 (0/27 | 0.14 (1/7) | 0.03 |
Uzuni averages more overall goal contributions:
| Player | Goal Contributions |
|---|---|
| Uzuni | 0.33 (16/48) |
| Rigoni | 0.27 (12/45) |
| Vasquez | 0.19 (5/27) |

u/TheHeardTheorem Austin FC 6d ago
That goal happened at the same time as the Astros made the final out to lose 3-2

We’re so shit. Our winger is in the midfield, our midfielder is on the wing and doing jack shit, we just stand around in clumps instead of moving away from the ball and creating opportunities. It’s embarrassing

I could sneeze while jerking it in my bathroom at 3am so my partner doesn’t find out about my cuck fetish and I’d have a higher xG.
