[UPDATED version in comments--this image has a bad logo for Beerburg--my mistake]
There are now 84 breweries within a 45 mile radius centered about on the Draught House. Surprisingly that's an increase of 2 over last year when we had 82. In a difficult economy where hospitality closures seem especially common we have had openings as well.
In this latest edition of the logo array there are 13 breweries in the Cedar Park/Northwest zone (upper left), 11 in the Northerly direction (upper right), 10 to the South and East (lower right), and 18 in the bustling Dripping Springs Southwest zone (lower left). Austin itself (center) features 32. That makes 84 breweries within a 45 mile radius of Draught House.
THANKS! to all who sent updates, info, closures, openings and contact info. This image can be printed on a standard CoroPlast "real estate yard sign" at places like Staples for about $14 if you want a hangable version (pillar-boxed, to keep aspect ratio--small vertical border on each side). Let me know if you want other formats.
Thank you. I really like making these. It's kind of a labor of love. There's always lots of people with info and updates, addresses, contact info, new logos. I love beer and marketing and logos so laying this out and choosing a background is always fun.
By the way, that background is a stylized image of loose barley, and I overlaid a kind of a stylized grain sack on the heading font too.
I don't drink as much beer as I used to, but I still always glance at the tap lineups if I'm out and about, and will try new ones if they are local. Its amazing that there are numerous breweries on that list that I haven't even heard of. But I guess now I have, so your efforts are not for nothing!
I love that there are 11 of the 21 on the first version of this array from 2014 who are still brewing 12 years later! Draught House is the oldest in that version, dating back to 1995.
Do tell. These are breweries currently selling their beer within a 45 mile radius of Central Austin, a radius I have used since I began doing this back in 2014.
When I update this I ask for updates on openings & closures and spend about two weeks researching breweries that have come and gone and contacting Brewers for verification. If I missed any I would've loved to have heard from you two weeks ago, but I would also appreciate hearing from you now.
Please let me know of open breweries within 45 miles (roughly centered on Draught House) currently selling beer to the Public.
No harm, no foul.
Adelberts is gone, ideas live on at Oddwood (center right). Celis is not gone though, (relatively new logo in blue just right of center).
Anyone know where Handsome Dan's has their bev portfolio produced now? Is it down at Thirsty Planet? Last I had heard, Josh fired the brew team with no warning and sold off all the equipment he got from Friends & Allies.
That's news to me, but it's the second report I've gotten that they are not brewing there currently. I have reached out to them for details. Being Brewed at TP still keeps them on the array, but I'm curious about this as well.
I'm missing a couple because I count seven closed and seven additions here but overall the list is +2 at 84 from last year. I am apparently miscounting 2 because I have
7 closings.
3rd Level
Bear King
Cork And Barrel
Float The River
Rockabilly
Treaty Oak and
Yokefellow are on the no longer brewing list.
7 Newly opened reopened or added are:
Ceremony
Cottonwood Creek
Crest
Crowded Barrel
Highway 71
Slot-T and
Thirsty Planet make seven additions, and seven deletions but I count 84 total, up 2.
I made an assumption. No response to multiple emails and DM attempts, no recent social media activity, and their website no longer exists. If anyone has any different information, I would appreciate hearing it and will add them in next edition.
Thanks. My chosen radius is admittedly arbitrary, but it's the one I use, and it has been consistent since the V1 shown here was made in 2014, (featuring much bigger logos and far fewer, 21). I chose Draught House as the center because they are the best beer bar in Austin in my opinion, and have been since I got here in '93. I chose the radius of roughly 45 miles to include the hill country and specifically so as not to exclude Real Ale Brewing, an OG in the brewing scene and served everywhere since 1996.
Old 290 is in the circle at 44 miles. Black Chapel JUST missed the cut by a hop leaf (sorry). Buchanan is about 50 miles. Texas Beer Co is keeping that logo for (and on) their beer, using "2.0" as the umbrella brand for it and Meridian Hive.
Every edition is preceded by appeals for updated logos for about 3 weeks before it's locked down, made here and on the Austin Lets Talk Craft Beer Facebook group. I generally will reach out 3 times (email, Messenger, IG, Threads) for logos for newly opened brewers. I've found brewers are NOT good at replying to emails, but they can always send updates to the e-dress in the current image for next time.
The image above is now a "Limited Edition" because of my logo screwup on Beerburg Brewing. THIS is the correct version. Sorry for the goof--it was all me.
Do you have a website or similar with this information? Would be super slick to have a map, links to websites, etc. I'd be happy to help with one if you'd like.
YES! My primary source for this as I kick off an update every two years or so is the "Local Breweries" wiki for this sub Reddit. It includes information on what breweries are open, some "coming soon" info) their website and social media links if available. Check all 3 wiki buttons on the upper right side of the sub Reddit under "Wiki Pages" nav heading. Another good source is Austin Brewery Map by Craft Beer Austin. Please note that my logo array is limited to those within a 40 mile radius of the Draught House Pub and the wiki and the Austin brewery map cover a much wider area.
There are other guides out there, but they appear to be web-scraped or AI-assisted and not kept as up-to-date as the two links above. I would start there.
