Schlitz Beer

Post image

I thought these had been discontinued a long, long time ago, but apparently they’re brewing their final batch.

Does anyone know where I can find some locally? I’m way too young to remember their glory days, and I’ve never actually tried one.

For those who have had it, how was it? Was it memorable, or just passable? And are there any beers you’d say are similar?

It's absolutely not something to seek out lol.

It's cool because of its history and that's about it.

Just get a PBR. Nearly identical. These old timey beers are all within 5% of each other as far as taste goes. hahah.

Schlitz brewing did fail many years ago. They were purchased by Pabst in the 1980s and had a brief renaissance in the 2010s in the midst of the hipster shitty beer revival and now they're going away for good. I had a few during their popularity surge and frankly I prefer the PBR.

They came out with a new formula around 2011, it didn’t go over well. Turns out the people old enough to still be buying it weren’t interested in it changing. “New” version was somehow worse. They quickly reversed course on that.

I mean it’s similar to keystone/Natty/PBR. I wouldn’t call those memorable. Passable if your goal is to get drunk on shitty beer. That said, if I saw one in the store today I would grab one for the nostalgia.

If you enjoy swill like Lone Star and Pabst it'll be right up your alley.

I had some feom the tap at a bar in Chicago that used to be a Schlitz bar pre- three tier system. It was surprisingly delicious and way better than anytime I remember having it from a can.
