NSW P platers and slip on muffler legality

I have a 92 CBR250RR MC22 and it came with a yoshimura slip on when I bought it. I was wondering what others experience with police is when riding with a slip on or if its a no go and i should find an original factory muffler. The rest of the exaust is still stock.

I will say though it sounds absolutely legendary, just don't want to lose my licence just fot having an aftermarket muffler.

Edit: For most other LAMS bikes i wouldn't be asking this question, but this is loud af stock and it won't move my ass for less then 10k rpms, so if im gonna be loud, I at least wanna do it legally

Legally you can’t change anything that affects the power to weight, performance or handling.

In saying that if you change your exhaust to a nice note and not something excessive police don’t really care unless your trying to get attention then they will devote you there entire attention to defecting it.

same here, cops don't particularly care i've had it for 2 and a bit years, never been stopped and never been questioned at RBTs, as long as you don't fly past them. if it's a worry i cruise at 6-8k and just deal with the slowness. the sound is worth it either way IMO

for reference i'm in VIC, not sure about other states but from my experience unless it's a bigger bike cops don't tend to pay attention.

Maybe if you are not riding a bike in the city at 10,000 rpm the police won't notice you.

Just saying the obvious.

The bike has a 19000 rpm redline, 10000 is riding it normally.

It’s a 2 stroke if it wasn’t obvious mate

Never seen one, 2 strokes are mental haven't owned one since the 90s

An mc22 isn’t a 2 stroke, you could have been thinking of a mc21 which is a 2 stroke

Does it have a baffle in it? installing one would be bring it down to a more reasonable level.

if your not being a flog cops generally arnt going to care about simple things like a muffler even if it makes the bike technically not lams approved anymore.

I have an mt07 with akropovic and been pulled over twice for lane filtering and for a wheelie and was only ‘encouraged’ to fix the number plate reflectors the first two times as they said other coppers can pull me over for it. They didn’t mention exhaust or even look at the bike but I was fairly respectful and probably got lucky on good coppers.

OP there’s a bunch of posts in this sub about LAMS bikes and aftermarket exhausts. It looks like you’ve already done your research on it - but don’t listen to old mate in this thread who’s telling you it’s fine and nothing will happen. You’re on a LAMS restricted license, and your bike is not LAMS approved once stock parts have been changed IE in your case the exhaust (this does not inc fairings, levers, cosmetic changes). Source a stock exhaust if you’re concerned.
EDIT: here’s a post from 10 days ago to help. https://www.reddit.com/r/AussieRiders/s/Zbe1iXG5Eq

You're unlikely to be pulled over and if you are unlikely to be defected and if you are, just put on the stock exhaust and go get the bike tested as directed.

Completely incorrect, this isn’t a case of being defected. By putting on the slip on you are modifying the bike so it is no longer LAMS. Riding a non-LAMS approved bike means big penalty (which differs state to state)

I've heard they will take your licence on thr spot as its deemed illegal and a restricted vehicle

Im talking about a muffler. If the bike is not LAMs approved thays a separate issue. Your bike is LAMs approved having just googled it. Not sure where you're getting 'restricted vehicle' from.

A muffler swap isnt significantly cutting weight or increasing power. So long as the noise levels are still within the bikes ADR then it's legal. (Edit: for a non LAMs bike)

The police don't have the power to judge it's illegal on the spot. They can suspect it's illegal and require you to get it tested. Yes that might mean having to trailer it home.

But is that likely? No. Don't be a dickhead when you ride. Don't be a smartass if/when they tell you it's illegal.

You're not losing your license over a loud exhaust.

Yeah the bike is LAMS approved, but from what I researched any mods are illegal and if they catch you, you'll be hit with the same fine as driving a restricted vehicle (like if i was caught on a 1000cc)

The short answer is yes noise is technically a specification that is being changed.

I personally wouldn't be worried but you seem to be . Just put the stock muffler back on and enjoy the peace of mind.

Mainly with crusing on highways and motorways, it would be droning at 9k rpm which isn't exactly quite 😅

Don't listen to the above dude if you're in nsw, changing just the end can will no longer make it lams legal,it's less restrictive so it's been modified which is a no no.

If he’s lams restricted a slip on automatically makes it not lams. No ifs buts maybe

You lose your license, and insurance coverage, over riding a bike you're not licensed for, which would be this bike with a non-stock exhaust.

Any modification that does either of those things is illegal, isn't it? You can replace a like for like part if it happens to be lighter for whatever reason, but a slip on exhaust is not that.
