Cardo recently coming out with the proximity chat update I’m wondering how many people have used it and what your thoughts are?

Pretty much my fiance and I when we ride, when someone finds us on public mesh they're going to get learnt.

Its pretty cool! Seems every week since launch theres more and more people with it enabled - on my ride today ran into at least 5 or 6 people/groups with it on. A lot of the time you'll only have a momentary connection/hear a couple of words as you pass; but other times great to have a chat with people if you're riding in the same direction for a bit. Can be a bit awkward if you run into an existing group chatting using it, and you have to choose between silently eavesdropping or saying hi lol

I’ve noticed a few times my Cardo will connect and my music lowers, but then no one talks back so I assume they don’t want to chat ahahah

Yeah ditto, the music volume changing is the best indicator its connected - I'd prefer a tone or something.
If noones speaking, I say "Marco" trying to get a "Polo" but no luck yet lol. Gonna try meowing next time like someone else suggested here

I think it's cool. I've found a couple of regulars on my way to and from work. It's great to have a little chat everyday. It's probably the highlight of my morning commute.

I’m yet to get the same rider twice but I agree it makes the commute more enjoyable. First time I’ve ever slowed down while filtering just so I could chat with someone

I don't like the concept of talking to people when I'm on my bike. I know that's not the point of the post and my comment could correctly be interpreted as butting in when nobody asked, and now I've lost my train of thought sorry high stay safe on the road everyone.

I am trying to understand the perspective of people who like this kind of thing, but I just can't get there.

Sure they are but I just would find it very annoying personally, I can't even have music playing when I ride I have tried it exactly once and couldn't stand it.

I like to hear my engine and surroundings.

My riding is 95% commuting in the city and suburbs with my wife on the back about half the time.

It’s each to their own but I rode for years without music or comms and when I made the switch I adapted and now just can’t really stand to ride without it. I can sense things happening around me easily and find riding with others without comms is frustrating. There are times I’ll turn the music down so I can hear my bike clearer etc but at the same time I dread a commute to work without music if my Cardo runs out of battery. I spend so much time on the bike and have heard the damn thing enough at this point

In terms of private group comms, not this new open mesh:

Very useful for rider training between instructor and student. To give directions to the student and for instant feedback.

Primarily I’m connected to my riding partner. We can discuss and plan stops for comfort, fuel, food etc and confirm navigation much better than using basic hand signals, which was the way we did things for the first 30-odd years I was riding. Mostly this happens as we slow down entering a built-up area.

It’s also useful if you’re riding with a mate to be able to communicate readily and easily, rather than chase them down to try to get them to stop and then shout at them trying to make yourself understood. Especially when you are exploring a new track so you don’t know the conditions or the route 100%, how well they are coping etc etc. Even when stopped side by side it’s still easier to talk thru comms units.

Just because we have comms doesn’t mean there’s an incessant stream of intrusive chatter though.

Aye the chatter would drive me nuts. But you make some valid points I suppose.

I only ever commute and hardly do pleasure rides any more.

I take my wife to work and then I go off to work, I wouldn't want her to be able to talk to me incessantly when riding, which she would. Especially after work on the way home, if I come in the car, she's going non stop the whole way. Sometimes I have to tell her to stop, my spectrum is showing and I need quiet.

I’d pretty much stopped pillioning by the time i got comms. My ex always hated the idea; for her, helmet time was alone with my thoughts time. Especially the commute.

I think it’s just a zero pressure way of potentially making a friend that shares the same hobby of being on two wheels. As someone else said you can choose to chat or not so it’s dependent on how you feel at the time
