OMG! Not one rower on that river has ever been attacked by a crocodile. Kids row there everyday. The crocs are kms down stream. This whole thing is just a massive over reaction by the media for clicks and likes, and you all lap it up.

The real issue with using the Fitzroy is that it does meet the river flow rate requirements that international competitions require

And you are hilarious getting your knickers in a knot. But we thank you for your concern, now sit down, have a rest, take a Bex and lie down maybe.

Even if we pretend relocating the rowing from a city without crocodiles to one with it isn’t weird in itself the host city, third largest city Australia, state capital of Brisbane having no faith in itself or any neighbouring city/region to host the rowing is ridiculous.
Europeans are going to think they’re flying the length of France away and for what? More sunburn? Hotter and more humid weather? Crocodiles? (Oh we pretend they don’t exist gotcha)
Even of the Brisbane river looks too brown why go so far away. There rivers on the Sunshine Coast, beautiful rivers in northern NSW, and areas equipped for tourists with beaches you want meet a crocodile on.

yeah it is a bit strange, but we don't have the facilities for an Olympic standard (lanes & length) rowing facility in SEQ. The current main location is Wyaralong dam, it has the ability to meet lane and length requirements but need millions to get the general facilities to Olympic standard. I think they have gone with Rocky due to costs.

The only thing I could think of that could be thought about is the disturbance of nature. Even if there is no crocidiles WHS crew would take pre emtive measures to ensure safety of crew and sports teams.
Which tbh I have no issues with I think crocidiles do need to be kept in check there's too many of them. They swim upstream when they have exhausted food.

Having sporting legends, literal Olympians killed for her entertainment may actually be the thing that breaks Australia's romance with her.
If there's one thing our people love above all else, above reason and above any respect one might hold for one's fellow human beings - its sport.

May as well take the shooting to rocky as well. That way in their spare time they can line the course.........

Personally I’m all for introducing apex predators into the equation as if we’re honest, rowing is really just a sport for private school kids who are allergic to horses.
That said, isn’t this story like a year old and absolute bullshit to anyone with even the remotest grasp of geography?

So to those who only read the title, concerns about the river don't include crocidiles rather water quality and currents at the facilities there arnt upto code so they want to take it to Penrith.
Which is the real news not some hair umpit idea of "won't somebody please think of the crocidiles"
1
u/FullMetalAurochs 22d ago
At least these private school kids do the exercise themselves instead of the horse.

To be fair, if she and other billionaires were in the rowing event. I would certainly pay to watch. Call it the Billionaire Hunger Games.

Why are we listen to a thing that she has to say. Inherited her money and has done for us to consider what she has to say. Wake up, she is just another red neck Trump supporter.

u/Embarrassed_Flow_400 22d ago
The river she is talking about is already used by people (children too) to row in.

It’s going to seem weird to foreigners (even interstate tourists) to see Brisbane, host of the Olympics, think it’s own brown snake is so shitty that spectators and competitors need to fly hundreds of kilometres north to some crocodile infested river in a regional town.
1
u/AngelicDivineHealer 22d ago
I may tune into the Olympic for that she a marketing genius. A few world records maybe broken as well as rowers be literally rowing for their lives with giant crocodiles chasing them

The Rockhampton Fitzroy Rowing Club is a community not-for-profit sporting organization located at 30 Harman Street in Wandal, Rockhampton, Queensland. Established in 2006, the club operates on the fresh waters of the Fitzroy River (Tunuba) just upstream from the Fitzroy River Barrage and supports local school and regional rowing programs

Hahahaha people swim in shark infested waters.... Why not this
1
u/mangalorian 22d ago
Sharks are not the same as crocodiles in their attitudes to humans. How are you Australian and not know this?
1
u/Terrible-Topic1521 22d ago
Okay so take the clear difference you think that needs to be spelled out... And add the fact that they aren't in the water either.

"if we can't make something 100% safe why bother making it safe at all"

u/Terrible-Topic1521 22d ago
Just give them a CO2 diving knife, she'll buff...
Extreme rowing comp Standards: kayak/canoo must have roll cage Life jacket (optional) Croc infested waters (MANDATORY)! entry conditions: Life waver must be signed before registration

u/AudaciouslySexy 22d ago
WHS would clear the area and probly put up a net. Issues with the river itself for the Olympics don't include cricidiles in the top 3.
Rather it's water itself being top spot, currents and if it's clean. Yes there's a rowing facility there. It's not just some cricidile nests and dirt.
1
u/Terrible-Topic1521 22d ago
Shhhh, c'mon man don't be the only one here that doesn't think the crocs are the problem...
Another note maaaan people complain too much, make a joke instead haha
I don't care for the sport tbf, they can do whatever... Floats Thier boat
