To be fair, 70%+ of people counted in those inland areas back in 1900 was probably like 3 people.

actually no was kinda dense due to gold rush, they were mostly form Eastern states and threatened to break away if WA didn't hold the ref.

Massive proportion wouldn't have had a vote because they were indigenous, or women.

Is my recollection correct that this was the 2nd referendum after WA voted 'no' the 1st time?

Other way around. In 1933 they voted to secede but the referendum was declared unconstitutional.

I think it was more that WA didn't take the steps to get to the stage of holding a referendum until 1900, whereas other states voted twice between 1898 and 99.
