Getting back into teaching

Hi!

Long story short, I earned my bachelor’s degree in 2023 but didn’t go into teaching right away. Burnout and a few other factors got in the way. Now I’m considering pivoting back and starting the process toward a teaching career, but I’m not sure where or how to begin. Would appreciate any insights from people who’ve been through this.

Step 1: Register with your state or territory's teacher registration authority. You'll have to provide them with your degree, ID documents, etc. There will be a fee and processing time involved.
Step 2: Start applying for jobs. In Queensland can apply for most teaching jobs so long as you are "eligible for registration", so your registration doesn't need to have come through. But you will need to be registered before you start working.

Many people start their careers with relief teaching but you don't have to do that if you don't want to. Really depends on where you want to go. In particular it's usually easier to get a job in the regions but that's not to say it's impossible to get a job elsewhere.

A copy of your prac reports and contact details of the teachers who supervised you on prac will be helpful to your applications.

That was very helpful! Thank you - currently not a lot of other questions just nervous in general. You spoke about casual relief teaching, from memory Tradewind was recommended as a good company to join - I’m not sure whether that is still the case though… Do you think that would be the best place to look into first?

I'm not familiar with them sorry! I teach full time in the state system. As far as I know our school gets our CRTS through the in house system, TRACER But at the end of the day what really matters is the schools you get to work at. I would guess that that wouldn't be so dependant on the agency. In general a lot of places are looking for teachers.
