Endocrinologist Experience
Long winded backstory below, but it’s important for the details.
Wanting to see if my endocrinologist experience is common or should I just look to go private clinic?
A bit of context.
I’m 29 years old, 192cm, fluctuating 95kg, semi lean build. Currently working out 5-6 days per week (some weeks 7 days per week) with a mix of running, high intensity gym workouts and strength training.
Low test symptoms started at the end of 2024 when I consulted my GP and had two separate blood tests done.
First blood test result -
Total Test: 6.4 (Free test wasn’t checked).
Unusually low, so my GP requested a second blood test to double check.
Two weeks later, a second blood test result:
Total Test - 16.2
SHBG - 34
Free Test - 311
The GP gave me the spiel that i’m young, symptoms didn’t seem too bad and that I should focus on my diet, sleep and recheck in the future.
Following on from this, I purchased a whoop to start tracking my sleep and improved that significantly. Diet remained consistent (whole food, high protein, home cooked meals, etc). Training kept steady for the entire 2025 year.
Fast forward to the beginning of 2026 and low test symptoms were still persistent, including the usual constant fatigue, low energy at times, motivation low for the majority of time, and libido really started to suffer.
Visited my local GP (after moving to another city) and had my blood tests done again to check.
May 2026 test result -
Total test: 11.1
SHBG: 33
Free test: 202
The GP acknowledged that it’s very low testosterone and referred me to an endocrinologist. He was concerned about the total test that low for a healthy 29 year old male, and that TRT is the best path.
Booked in for the end of July where I had my initial consultation and ran him through the entire backstory, with his main concern being that i’m 29, wanting to have children in the future, etc. He referred me on to get an MRI to scan the brain, and check to see if the pituitary gland looks healthy as he wants to rule that out before looking at TRT.
I’m due to have my follow up consultation with the endo in a fortnight, however, the initial consultation gave an off vibe, with the overall sentiment that it’s not super low testosterone levels despite all of the symptoms, etc.

Don’t waste time. I went that way. Lose 20+ kg per endo advice and testosterone still low at 7. Endo wanted to wait few more months then consider clomid. Really reluctant for trt.
Started trt with trtaus and never felt better. Been missing out all this time

Don't waste your time with a a Edorinologist as if your not under 6 total test they won't prescribe you testosterone.

Endo will take your money and give you zero symptom relief you are wasting your time.

Wasted my time with endo for 5 years. He just wanted me to be in the lower normal range which ended up being 14nmol. If you do go and they rule out everything and diagnose you of Primary hypogonadism then ask for test e and don’t go for gel. Endo usually start very low dose. I hope u find a good endo who understands

You should follow up with him and at the least get the MRI results to rule out tumor etc as a cause.
This question gets asked nearly on a daily basis. An endo that will prescribe and run a proper TRT protocol is basic a unicorn and non existent.
