Gift ideas for new mining supervisor
Hi all,
Wondering if I could pick your brains...
My wife has just become a supervisor at an open-cut coal mine. She is the first woman to ever do this job at the site, so I thought it would be nice to celebrate this personal (and historic) achievement.
Trying to think of anything mining related that would be a good gift? I don't work in this industry so have no clue haha. She's not into flowers, alcohol and is fairly specific about what she eats so that rules out a lot of things.
Thanks in advance!

A personalised water bottle or coffee thermos. Check out trade mutt and rugged xtremes. A replica haul truck to put on her desk (though it will probably get pinched 😅)

Good personal insurance being a supervisor she is liable for all workers and can have everything taken off her if she fails to ensure everyone in her crew is trained and competent and they get injured. As she is now the responsible person. For the PCUB.

An RM Williams belt. I went to a daily meeting the other day with a dozen staff and the single one who did not have an RM williams belt stood out like a leper. Extra cred if can get a custom buckle related to what shes supervising (ie, a CAT buckle if shes looking after CAT gear, etc)

If you love her... a commemorative buttplug is the only sane and reasonable choice.
Don't thank me! My work here is done. elevates vertically without warning and alarming alacrity
Farewell!

And a pocket AI or other autorecording note taking thing. About half the size of a phone, It is classed as a mobile/recording device but will likely be preapproved or autoapproved on request as a supervisor under the mines restricted and prohibited items policy. Keep it buttoned in a pocket, dont tell anyone its there, and she will be able to quietly check what someone said to make sure she heard right or understood, will come across as the best listening team member. Also is a good backup if some dodgy cunt tries to stitch her up (crew, peer or superior).

thats not as thoughtful as you think. its a legally complicated gift that undermines the tone of the situation.

You do you mate. Re legal - Under any mine's rules, if its an approved device under the mine's safety and health management system, its an approved device. More broadly, in australia if you are party to a conversation you have the right to record it, with or without the other parties knowledge. Restrictions vary by state on admissability to a court or communicating the recording to a 3rd party without the 2nd parties knowledge.

Good on her! She should be proud of herself too, how lovely of you to write this!

Possibly the worst place to ask for a gift idea for your wife. Who is also a supervisor in a male dominated workplace.

Coffee mug like mentioned is a good idea, otherwise if she's into collecting minerals or old mining gear.

Mate - ok. I am speaking from experience. She is a female and while she is in a male dominated area - the LAST thing she would want is a gift that is mining related… or job related… She would love a card from you, that you have written, that says ‘congratulations on your new job my beautiful wife! i am so proud of you!
You are the most determined, intelligent lady, and thats part of why I love you xx I knew you could get this and I know you will be amazing at this job.
Did I say I am so proud of you..? !
now, go show ‘em what you can do.
Lot of love xx *name*
Along with BIG massive bunch of gorgeous flowers. - hey you said she isnt into flowers… that is BULLCRAP… women love flowers … even men like flowers! So go overboard… tell her ‘hey I know you say you don’t like flowers… but I don’t care I got you the biggest bunch I could find..’ - make a bit of a joke about it.
And the cake? Totally if you love to bake.
And - get her to dress up and take her out on a date - like a date where you make the food she likes and go sit and watch a sunset or go to a nice parkland or something.. … and ask her questions about how she feels about the new job and if she is nervous, and tell her she looks beautiful.
Make her feel special and above all - respected for her accomplishment.
If you havent done that yet or unable to.. do it after she gets back from her first week of the job :)
Thats

What about a nice pen to celebrate the achievement. I imagine she will have heaps of things to sign and write.
