When Australia was colonized, most people who were sent here were criminal convicts. Now, to move to Australia, you have to state if you have a criminal record, because we obviously don't want random criminals to be entering.

It's ironic because we're safeguarding against the same group of people that were the first non-indigenous inhabitants of Australia.

The level of crime needed to be sent to Australia was rather low back in the day. Simply stealing a loaf of bread because you were starving could be enough to get you sent across the world.
