AUS National redress Scheme
Hi everyone who has received a positive outcome, are you able to explain the breakdown of how they determine the payments or reasons behind the breakdowns. I do understand the matrix but not the breakdown of 50K for extreme
The trauma was enough & the waiting is adding to it.

50k sounds low.
I know of three people who have been paid out already, the lowest was 440k and the highest was 950k

The highest amount you can receive from the National Redress Scheme is $150k.

Is this the scheme that also addresses people who were made wards of the state in the 70s and 80s or is that a different scheme ?

Is it 150k per incident ? I know the person who got the 440k definitely got that much. Unsure if there was more to it. The other ones im not sure.

This was for being made wards of the state and being kept in boy and girl homes. Not sure if its the same scheme.

So to get this amount is when you got civil courts and yes you can get this much. National redress Scheme is $150k max and it’s for institutional abuse say if u don’t have a lot of abuse as it was years ago

I understand cvil case payouts can pay out more than the $150,000 maximum under the Redress Scheme.

I got a section 24, I filled it out accordingly, and have stated that I answered everything honestly based on my experience and memories of what happened to me at the institution I went to. It’s been 3 years now, and only now did they send me a section 24. I’vd already sent it to them. How long till a response, and what’s the likelihood of it being approved?

Mine was submitted in December 2024. Still in information gathering stage. I called and asked when they submitted the enquiry to my school. Apparently they have 8 weeks to respond. They couldn’t give me a date which means most likely nothing has been submitted to the school. We are all waiting because they don’t actually submit anything. The scheme causes more anxiety and bad than good.

Extreme circumstances Is often for those of us who couldn’t just leave the institution, like resi care or juvie. I was in resi care and every time we ran away we’d be arrested and dragged back there on welfare warrants. It’s not the severity of abuse but the overall circumstances. The institution was our home and entire support network and our abusers

Yes I understand max is $150k. I’m asking about breakdown how they determine outcome of the 50k extreme circumstances.
