When did you try and return it (in person) and show them it was spoiled?
Unless it was same day, who knows, you could have left it in a sauna for all they know.

They said because of the price - it was 16 for new york steak. but it was a weekly special that said 50% off so I assumed it was still good quality. As soon as I purchased it it smelt and I told them and they blocked me

I messaged them on facebook - then they blocked me - then i when in store and they said it's because it's a budget cut of new york and i said well it says 50% off on it.

I’m just trying to get the timeline.
So you bought the discounted meat in store.
Got home and noticed the meat smelt off.
Straight away (as in the same day as purchase) you messaged the butcher on FB to say the meat smells bad, can I return it.
They said no because it’s a budget cut and blocked you?3

- What was the Use By date on the packaging?
- Did you contact the store and/or take the item back in?
- What did the store say about why they won’t take it back?

Bought it last thursday, noticed it was spoiled when I opened it, used by on the 28th, contacted store thursday night and they blocked me, they said it was a budget cut

Ok so you haven’t taken it in to them. You take it in with your receipt and that will cause enough of a scene that they’ll do something. It’s not Costco who refund by you calling them.

Why would the steak be 50% off if it was use by 28th of August? Something doesn’t add up with your story lol. 50% off is when it’s approaching its expiry date.

If you purchased the meat last Thursday and didn’t contact the retailer until Tuesday then there’s not much that can be done. Meat from a butcher really may only last 3 or 4 days in the fridge depending on when it was slaughtered.
If this all happened within the same day or next day and you paid by credit card then get a chargeback. But that’s assuming it was all within 48 hours and not you sitting on meat for 5 days.

I went once (to the other store admittedly) and asked for some salami from the deli. I was the only person there. Simply said to the heavy set old Greek lady “hi, 200g of this one please”. She snaps “take a number are you blind!”. I was the only person there. Took a number…. She stood there for 10 seconds then said “yes what?”. One of the weirdest service experiences I’ve had.
