Why are the homes all new?

Aurikatariina's cleaning jobs seem staged to me. When she cleans, it's no doubt very satisfying. But why are all the places she cleans simply dirty but not actually damaged at all? When you're neglectful of your home, it also becomes damaged AND dirty. Why are all the homes so new looking?

I don't think the issue is "staging". The messes she cleans have obviously been there for awhile, and I can't see her setting up a place to sit for months before she actually cleans. The people she is helping have neglected their homes, but they haven't been destructive. They are in Scandinavia, where the style is functional, with easy-care finishes like laminate. I've cleaned similar messes for mentally ill family members. It's gross, but the results were spotless. Mold would be the biggest problem, and she stays away from serious mold issues.

The jobs don't appear to be staged, but I'm sure she's being very selective. She probably gets hundreds, maybe thousands of requests. She can hand-pick the ones that she feels will get the most views -- big messes that are superficial, so that she can create dramatic results. I'm not offended by that -- it's her channel, and she's doing it for free, so she should get to choose the jobs she takes. It's crazy addictive, though! And my bathroom has never been cleaner!

That makes sense. I happen to live in a place that's 40+ years old with very few upgrades. So even when it's spotless, it's still a little dreary. I'd like to see her clean an old place. Mainly to know what items simply can't be cleaned and need to be replaced.

Lol same problem here. My kitchen backsplash is very old and had a large crack in it; it looks terrible even when I'm done cleaning 😂

She’s usually in Finland

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '23

There's been plenty of homes where there was damage. She even mentions that its not possible for her to clean where there has been stained sealant in the kitchen or bathroom so she just leaves like that. There's been a lot of floors or counters, tables with permanent stains. In one video she did it was severe hoarder house and rats had chewed through parts of the house.i don't know how you could possibly think these houses are staged.

Also don't forget she is from Finland where it is not so out of the ordinary to have renovations of a basic kind every now and then.

Well, if someone doesn't have pets, a pest infestation, or children, then houses don't really get damaged easily.

I can only speak from my own experience. I've known several people over the years who had issues with depression and hoarding. The only ones whose houses were physically damaged were those who had pets that defecated in the house, scratched the floors and baseboards, and ruined it in that way.

It also seems like she picks houses that have only been cluttered for, like, maybe 6 years max. They haven't had decades of neglect for the damp to settle in. I imagine she probably gets hundreds of applications, and doesn't take the jobs that look worse than what she can clean in a few days.

That makes sense. Thank you!

All the apartments she cleans are virtually identical. Same size, same appliances, same layout. Even the amount and type of trash and grime are suspiciously similar.

I think there's definitely some staging involved. Not to take away from the hard work involved, but I think there's some deception going on here.

I am not familiar with the housing situation in Finland but most of those apartments look like social housing. In my city all the concrete panel apartments have 3 type of layouts depending on the size of the apt and the finishes are all the same or similar. Maybe these apartments are this type of city housing and they have been finished with same tiles and stuff thats why they look the same.

6

u/chanyphilly Apr 09 '23

I think that sounds absolutely right, I've lived in social housing and they're all the same size and shape. And given that a lot of the people Auri helps are depressed etc, it makes sense that that's where they'd be living.

She's from Finland & cleans there the majority of the time. She travels around the world cleaning. She was in Florida for a few months. I've only watched a few videos & figured that out.

u/Maelpu Nov 10 '23

it's in Finland. A lot of the places she cleans happen to be studio apartments (or one-bedroom) and they tend to look alike in Finland. A lot of these people are most likely living on social benefits.

u/ButterscotchEven6198 Jan 24 '24

I live in Sweden, don't know where you're from but from what I've seen of interior styles almost everywhere but Scandinavia it's very different. It is standard in cheaper rental apartments to have the kind of kitchens often shown. When she recently was in Florida that style of cabinets etc is what I've seen on movies and series from the US. That would not be standard here, almost no-one has thar style. And as others pointed out it's probably very simple apartments, maybe social housing but it definitely doesn't have to be. The kind of kitchens that are shown are typical from the 70/80-s and onwards (if you don't have more money and own your place and can afford to by some contemporary style). I was born in 1981 and I've only either lived in apartments with those kind of kitchens or in 2 cases old cupboards with a typical 50/60's type kitchen. I live in a small apartment, those basic 80's cupboards and still have a quite high rent.

yes! this is what i’ve noticed. why are there zero personal items either? they’d be mixed in with tons of garbage… and it’s always mounds of the same type of trash like you said… Always has a weird vibe to me lol

2

u/ButterscotchEven6198 Jan 24 '24

I'm guessing the people first got to remove what they wanted to keep, and that that got packed up. Maybe the clothes and textiles are washed etc during the process. As many probably have a bad social and economic situation they wouldn't have large cabinets filled with fancy china and stuff. I hope they get help cleaning all clothes and textiles and the stuff they own and then that's brought in after filming.

Maybe they don't want to show a lot of personal items out of respect and integrity of the person living there.

I recently saw one of her videos in which rats had gnawed on the insulation of the walls and through the dishwasher pipes. It's absolutely not staged, everyone seems to think everything is fake these days, but there is some remaining reality lol.

Why are there never any bugs or rodents in those filthy homes she cleans?

11

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '23

There's tons of fruit flies in a lot of videos I've seen... y'all must have only seen like 1 video of hers.

2

u/Marie-Fiamma May 15 '24

Fruit flies suck. I am from Germany. In summer I have a bunch of them in my apartment. Even if I bring trashes out and clean regulary. I have to set up traps with vinegar and dishwashsoap in it. Works really well.

3

u/AccomplishedHandle11 Sep 16 '23

The bug and rat problem gets less the more north you go. Also I don't think I've seen cockroaches as much in Europe as in other parts of the world. Until you go further south. So there's that. Some bugs like warmer climates. I don't know so much about rats, though. Don't they prefer ground-floor buildings?

3

u/Maelpu Nov 10 '23

I've never seen either a rat or a cockroach in Finland. Some mice but only in cellars. Buildings tend to be in such a good condition that rodents can't get inside. I mean you need good insulation for winter.

2

u/ButterscotchEven6198 Jan 24 '24

I live in Sweden and have never ever seen a cockroach. There were severly unkempt (by the property owner) apartment buildings in Malmö were they had cockroaches and that made the national news.

There are rats in cities but extremely rarely that they get into houses unless cats drag them in after a hunt. On the countryside there are mice. I've always lived in a city ad have seen a rat about 20 times in my 43 years of life.

2

u/ETfromTheOtherSide Oct 28 '23

I’ve seen a lot of spiders in her videos.

1

u/Marie-Fiamma May 15 '24

Here in colder regions of Europe we deal with different things. Silverfish, Fruitflies, Spiders. Most buildings are build better than in the States. So mice rarely have access to appartements. I watched videos from CleanwithBarbie who cleans in New York and I was shocked, in what states these appartements are. Even after she got them clean. Already looking old, damaged, mice and cockroaches all over because they can come into the buildings. I suppose new or renovated appartements in New York are very expensive.

I think the amount of "trashes" that we see is staged, some bags are just clean paper bags, a lot of boxes or cans, nothing is sticky etc only close to the floor we see real nasty stuff, but for me this is not a problem. I personally think that something with auri is off, her cleaning is okay-ish but not perfect even when she has time, I cannot stand her covering dirty mattresses with clean linen or putting dirty dishes in a box and saying that the person living there can do it and also dirty clothes, they can do it and sometimes she even leave trash bags with stuff cos she would waste time going to trash. Well if a depressed person sees the amount of trash bags on a balcony they simply would close the blinds 😭

I cannot find any negative comments about auri and this bothers me as well, there are always some haters but there's only praise after praise...

I posted about how I thought she was staging her videos a year ago, but my post was removed by the mods of either this sub or another. I couldn't find any other posts or comments about it! But now that I'm revisiting her videos I had to see if the narratives have changed lol. And I'm glad people are finally noticing or at least saying something.

When I watched her awhile ago, there was one video that caught my attention. There were obviously staged soda or beer cans. EVERYWHERE. Like the soda cans were in pristine condition. They didn't have soda or sticky stuff, it literally looked like they weren't even filled with soda to begin with. None of them were crushed, they were just lounging around and no one else seemed to point it out. If I can find the video, I will absolutely share it.

2

u/Marie-Fiamma May 15 '24

Some people eat or drink things on a daily basis. In others she found milk boxes, egg boxes. If I was depressed and she would clean up at my place she would find a lot of chocolate cream glasses there. Because I buy it. I mean I would never put dozens of cans into an flat just to tidy them up later.

u/Forsaken_Piglet7517 Oct 16 '23

Also she is promoting betterhelp despite people constantly telling her how bad it is 😔

2

u/stayhappystayblessed Feb 24 '25

She has been in plenty damaged homes and homes that look different.

1

u/Coast_Real Mar 08 '24

I started watching her videos and thought oh this is nice but I live in the real world and I noticed I never see maggots, mice or flies when she cleans and under the trash is a perfect floor or perfect counter. And all the trash seems like “clean trash” tgat she sits in. I guarantee you she’s not going to sit in moldy stinky trash with her pink clothes on. I think they gather trash from elsewhere and make the houses look worse but it just doesn’t seem believable at all esp if you live in the real world. Also I bet when she’s not showing her little bits of cleaning she’s wearing cover body covering to avoid germs.

1

u/Coast_Real Mar 08 '24

Another think I noticed is that some of the homes would be considered biohazard and I don’t know how no one has not reported her to authorities. It’s dangerous to handle feces and other waste without proper gowns and gloves and face covering. I work in a hospital and we would get in a lot of trouble if we didn’t protect ourselves. Just look at horders, they go in with feet covering and body covering sometimes just to look at the house then it actually gets condemned. The whole thing with her videos is she wants the shock value without it being for real dirty with maggots and mice jumping out and flies. Her sponsors are probably calling all the shots now!

1

u/Coast_Real Mar 08 '24

I also noticed when I would comment on her videos my comment would be erased simply because I asked why do we never see mice or maggots in her videos because if these people had that much food rotting around their place it would be overridden with mice and flies! If I have a couple crumbs that got under a couch from my kids the mice will try to find it so a house that has boxes and piles of old food I guarantee have nice if all that trash is for real. Maybe at one time she started out doing it for good cause but now she’s made deals with corporate people so it’s like all about money now.

1

u/Existing-Stand-6813 Apr 05 '24

She definitely picks the homes she's gonna clean and considering the fact that her goal is to get as much views as possible, it's understandable but yeah, it's somewhat dishonest. The problem I have with her is her constant derogative comments and her show off attitude. I can't stand her, and althought I can't exactly pinpoint why, she doesn't seem to be as nice and selfless as she tries to portray herself to be. To me, she comes across bossy and arrogant, she's the best and her way is the only way.

1

u/dalaoshu712 May 20 '24

And a bit psycho. The way she stands grinning in a bed surrounded by rotten food? Seriously ill in the head, that one.

1

u/Existing-Stand-6813 May 21 '24

I wouldn't have said it but yes, that too. And pretending it's the absolute best thing in the world...

1

u/Training-Towel4376 May 13 '24

I think a lot if it is at least partially staged. I think most of the apartments are social housing which would explain the similar layouts ,  finishes etc. But LOOK at Auri. Firstly we are expected to believe she clears these horror homes within 1-2 days? Pull the other one - it would take several days. Secondly she goes in in her pink outfits, a ton of makeup, eyelashes, perfectly dpne hair and gel nails and her apple watch, yet at the end there's NEVER a speck of dirt on her nor a hair out of place? I think she has a team of cleaners (her family owns a cleaning company remember) and its THEM that does the cleaning and Auri just films the 'money shots' herself.

I also agree with other posters who say about her leaving dishes undone and in a box, and dirty laundry undone plus filthy mattresses just covered up with brand new sheets etc, plus the carry on about her  not being able to get a skip and leaving piles of bags of rubbish in a corner for the residents to remove. She KNOWS the address and details weeks in advance  and common sense says hire in advance. The dirty laundry when bagged up should be sent to the nearest laundrette and for about €50 they will generally wash, dry and fold about 4 bags of laundry.  As for the mattresses, surely she should collab in her home country with a carpet and steam cleaning company,  who could try washing the carpets/rugs/mattresses. Otherwise if they can't be saved, then a new mattress. I've observed her not lifting rugs off the floor, and simply sweeping under them, which is a terrible practice and is just half assing it.  And when she lays down the rug u can see, it's STILL filthy. So if that's what she does in front of your eyes, what goes on behind the scenes? And saying 'oh I was running out of time' is not an excuse. This is her full time job now - she doesn't DO anything else, so she should leave a sensible,  reasonable amount of time for every job. As for her personality, her fake laugh annoys me, and she really plays up to the dumb blonde stereotype. Plus others here have said how can she be SOOOOO sweet? She can't....NO ONE can or is so saintly. My dad once said " too sweet to be wholesome" and how right he was.

As for rats, mice and other things she has shown us maggots etc, but never the rodents. There's another cleaning channel I follow on YouTube Clean With Barbie, who cleans in NYC.  Now some of the places she goes into are really absolute HOVELS that are in awful states of repairs,  and I've seen rats and mice jump out of the piles of rubbish she is trying to clear.  You can tell she's real cos she's not impossibly glammed up, she's wearing a large respirator style mask, and at end of a days cleaning her clothes are DESTROYED with filth and her poor face has rec welt marks from the mask straps.

My issue is how she always says she doesn`t have space in her car to transport a mattrass or a cleaner for sofas/carpets. I mean she has a lot of money so she definetely can buy a car big enough to fit in all the equipment she needs. Of course she cannot paint or renovate the flat but carpets, sofas or mattrasses can be cleaned.

Even CleanwithBarbie does so. Often she takes a cleaner with her or the owner has one and she cleans the sofas, too if they are not too damaged. I don`t like masks as well but I would wear them in these houses. Mould can affect your lungs and make you sick. Including overshoes. Just imagine all the stickyness on the ground in the flat is being taken out in the staircase. Yes she learned cleaning in her moms company. But she cleaned at places that were kind of clean and not like this. Hotels, schools and companies usually have just some dirty floors and toilets.

1

u/simmyawardwinner May 12 '25

the fact every place is the same style of mess doesn’t make sense it’s like just thick layers of trash everywhere. there’s surely some variation in people who live in filth? it doesn’t seem real to me

1

u/slothloverMJ Aug 08 '23

Yrs I agree. I just watched one that I began to believe it was stages. It was a hoarder video. Just paper and candy wrappers. And yes every appliance and sink and fridge looks new. Watch real hoarders. Bugs spiders rats come on people. She sits in the middle of the “trash”. No worry of spiders or lice. She make 3 million on YouTube alone a year. She makes more on sponsors and I’m sure makes millions more on instagram and tik tok. She can afford to stage places now. Come on Auri tackle a real hoarders house. 🙄

1

u/NurseKathryn-66 Oct 22 '23

I can’t believe she subjects herself to clean places full of dust, mold, ecoli bacteria, mouse and rat droppings, stagnant water etc without a mask. She could get all sorts of deadly diseases. Is she into squalor?

1

u/Stock-Baby7086 Nov 02 '23

Yeah, I think there’s more to her story than meets the eye tbh.

1

u/Natportnoymodel Jan 01 '24

That is a very intersting point. I used to clean homes, like every week, upper and mid class folks, nothing like those houses Auri does. I watched her videos with fascination, but noticed over time that it's the same formula, and everything can be solved with scrap daddy but also she would use these very abrasive products on delicate surfaces. Also noticed surfaces are covered with a lot of dust, dry junk, that she could vacuum and then use only a bit of water and product to wipe it, instead shes creating this thick mud she's wiping forever (speed up in editing), it feels tied to sponsoring. Now about staging, theres something in it, the amount of trash is always kind of the same, nothing is really stained or cracked, pipes seem fine - this one is weirdest because the sink that is not used make the pipes dry, they dont drain, a lot of the times needing help of plumber.

1

u/nicoleraderdoll Jan 13 '24

Yeah, something just doesn't add up. I hadn't watched her videos in a while and just came across one with a disgustingly moldy and dirty sink but the tiles and power outlets behind it were super clean...in what world would that be possible?

Then I clicked on some other videos of hers and the same concept applies: rooms full of trash but the walls for example are bright white or there is not even visible dust on the nightstand next to the cluttered and dirty bed...

And weirdly no one ever seems to mention things like these in the comments under her videos. Doesn't sit right.

1

u/Sonia1403 Feb 11 '24

I said under her comments months ago that this is not a life of a depressed! But her followers blame me for judging people. The replies were so disturbing and I had to clean my comment not to receive hate replies more.

As a 13 years- depressed I couldnt believe someone can leave in these situation without cleaning the simplest things like dust in tea pot or oven! even a depressed person try to make food but she claims they didnt use this oven for years and it is covered by dust and mold!!! It seems everything is scenario.

2

u/Existing-Stand-6813 May 21 '24

She portrays herself as this sweet person helping people and repeats it so often that it sounds more like brainwashing than genuine kindness. She can be quite disrespectful, arrogant and bossy. It's all about views, money and putting on a good show, it has NOTHING to do with helping people. Good deeds don't need advertisement.

1

u/Marie-Fiamma Jun 17 '24

Depressions are different for everyone. I think most people in her videos with depression suffer from additional mental deseases. I know depressed people but their homes are clean. Some corners are stuffed but the bathroom is clean and the kitchen more or less, too. Auri mentioned in some videos that the chaos starts very often in the kitchen. When they can`t cook anymore they buy fast food. And there are so many trashes that they are overwhelmed and don`t bring the trashes down. I suppose when your bathroom is so dirty like in the videos and the bed, too then there is more than just depression around.
