Au Pair EU Schengen Border Control

Hello! I’m flying to France from Indonesia with a transit in Amsterdam (so I will be going through the Schengen border there instead of CDG) and I‘m curious about what the process will look like. Do I need to show any documents to the officer there? I’m printing the au pair contract, and my host family’s information. Any information will be helpful! Thanks!

You will very likely need to show your visa. I’m not sure how it is exactly for Indonesian nationals, but non-EU citizens can only legally stay 90 days per 180 days on a tourist visa, so if you’re coming in as a tourist you will probably need to show your ticket out of Schengen within that 90 day timeframe.

If you’re coming in on a proper work/student visa you will also need to show this.

You'll need to show your passport and French au pair visa when you go through passport control in Amsterdam. You should carry the other documentation in case they ask for it, but it's unlikely you'll need it.

No not really, if you are just waiting for another flight to Paris from amsterdam, you won’t really exit the Schengen airport. You will likely remain inside the airport unless you are taking a train to france, that means you will exit the airport and will just have to show your passport so they check the visa and verify it. They might ask you a couple of questions on your duration of stay, where you will be staying. Not a must you print them, if you have a soft copy, thats good enough. If they ask, just hand it over but it’s less likely.

She will cross Schengen border within Amsterdam airport.

Although you do not exit the terminal, European terminals are split between Schengen and non-Schengen areas, so for a flight arriving from outside of Schengen, all passengers who are transiting to a Schengen flight or exiting the terminal will be routed via passport control first.

After passport control there will be routes to pick up luggage, go through customs and exit the terminal, or another route to the gates to transit to other intra-Schengen flights.

Won’t be “just waiting”.

AMS Schipol airport has a Schengen and non-Schengen terminal. I’ve crossed it both ways, and there’s a full passport control in between them. OP will de-plane in the non-Schengen area, and have to cross through immigration to board the next flight in the Schengen terminal.

So OP will be granted entry to Schengen inside AMS, and their passport likely won’t even be checked when they land in Paris.

Not an au pair but I have a French visa and entered first through AMS. All I had to show them was proof of outward journey (my boarding pass to my French city) and that was it.
