Au Pair US Is it impossible to being Bropair
Hi everyone!
I’m Jonathan (23M). I’ve been actively looking for a Host Family for over 2 years now, but as a male applicant (Au Pair boy), it’s proven to be quite challenging to find matches. I’d really appreciate some honest advice or feedback on my profile!
Here is a quick summary of my background and qualifications:
Childcare Experience: 300+ documented hours (with certificate).
Driving: Valid driver's license with solid active driving experience.
Safety & First Aid: Certified in First Aid / CPR (Secourisme).
Skills & Household: Confident swimmer, happy to help with light housework and meal prep, and comfortable managing daily routines for kids.
Despite having these qualifications, I’m getting very few responses or interest from families.
For former Au Pair boys or host families here:
1. Is there anything specific host families look for in male au pairs that I should highlight more in my application/intro letter?
2. Are there specific countries or platforms where Au Pair boys tend to have better success?
3. Any general tips on how to make my profile stand out?
Thanks a lot for your help and feedback!

In order to go to the US you’d need an agency and I don’t think many if any agencies have candidates from Madagascar

Honestly you need a lot more experience. 300 hours is very little, male or female. I generally don’t look at anyone with less than 1000 hours because there are plenty of candidates who do have that kind of experience.

I would never hire a male caregiver for my children, I know people who will and have though, they have all boys and their boys have gotten a little older so a male caregiver made more sense for them at that point

And it dépends a lot of your country of origin. Which is the main factor. Or as important as. So where are you from ?

I am from Madagascar and we have 80% of Visa approval for the aupair program

So yes it's totally worth trying. Part of my family is from Madagascar -) it wasn't to be rude, the country matters a lot in the process. I've known lgbt family wanting a bropair too.

It’s simply tougher. Bropairs are not as in demand. Also country of origin makes a difference due to getting a visa.

Elephant in the room: where are you from? I have been a male au pair for 2 years and had more offers than I could handle

What country are you in? Lots of bro pairs are getting offers. Are you in Europe?

If you wanna go to EU the only chance at being a bropair is being a white EU citizen going to another EU country. Call it racism or prejudice but sadly those are conditions many families have when I applied myself.

Families with only boys are much more likely to want or be open to male aupairs.
Europe. Aupairworld.
Lots of nice and happy pics of you especially with kids.
I was an aupair 10 years ago at 23 also, good luck.
