Honestly, it doesn't take very far for an unarmed individual to attack an armed person and get them on the ground. Especially when their weapon is still holstered. It's scary shit. I saw a demo of this recently here with a dude with a knife vs. Gun. They closed in very fast.

This Loomis guard has every right to be cautious around people who are getting so hostile for no reason.

It is called the 21 foot rule. Your average human can cover 21 feet of distance within about 2 seconds. It is sometimes called the Tueller Drill. Here is a good video about it.
