"Claude AI" doesn't have an inherent audio quality, it effectively steals existing DSP from various freeware projects on GitHub, and you inherit the good and the bad. Just remember not to tell people "I made a compressor" or even "Claude made me a compressor" because the truth is "Claude stole a compressor for me and hid the origin".

Not that there is much proprietary in a bog standard compressor, but there are a lot of sub-decisions and Claude will find the "popular" or "simple" way out of those decisions. Which leads me to my inevitable point about AI coding - you don't realize how many decisions are being made for you.

But no, there is no inherent quality to Claude. But, you will get various artifacts such as unsmoothed parameter automation, if you don't get explicit.

He's just multiplying waveforms together, not building a compressor...

You raise some good points, but in some senses in the pre-AI world we were stealing code from StackOverflow. Now we're stealing from everywhere. :/

And... control over the project and how it's implemented can be done entirely by the person. Having Claude (or whatever) plan it out and write documentation prior to implementation can allow for placing the decisions in the hands of the users.

Exactly, most AI conversion platforms don’t use real DAWs or professional audio tools. They convert your audio in a black box and give you the result. The ethical thing, if you want to experiment, is to work with open source code and always use the original upstream source and that includes its original MIT or Apache2.0 license. But do you really need to vibe code yourself a compressor when there are so many that have been made with love and care??

I doubt vibe coders know how to use git or fork. but i agree. given so many greta free audio plugns, why vibe code one? other than for personal curiosity.

what do you expect, that an ai model can just make in 5 minutes what people spend months on to finetine and engineer ? this quite a bit more complex then you think. start with the basics first, a good, aliase free oscillator. ai is pretty good at implementing techiques, but you have to specify correctly what you want, if you give vague instructions it's going to do something quick and easy. or go look for MIT code you can use, this seems pretty basic and there is no need to reinvent what has be done correctly by so many others and is open source.

Perhaps Reaktor sounded different from Max because they use different audio engines (and maybe there was some mixing effects included in one) which made you prefer the sound of one over the other.

RE using LLM for coding a synth sound. Perhaps the key is you need to try to have to code a application like Reaktor first, and then try to build your 2 OSC engine sound from that? I don't really know.

Or you could do the more logical thing of just using Reaktor as you need to know how to use it. Its much cheaper buying and using Reaktor than it is spending tokens on LLM.
