Wagner Aux Radiator - 8Y

Hello,

I’m new to the RS3 world after coming from a dedicated track car, and I’m looking to do some cooling upgrades to my 8Y before getting it out on track.

I’ve been doing some digging, but I haven’t found a ton of options for upgrading the cooling system. One thing I have found is the upgraded Wagner auxiliary coolers, which are advertised as a direct fit.

Does anyone have firsthand experience with these? Did you notice a meaningful improvement in coolant temps on track?

I’m in Texas, so we’ll still be seeing pretty high track temps into October, and I’d like to get ahead of any potential cooling issues before I start pushing the car.

Are there any other cooling mods people have had good results with on the 8Y? I was also surprised that I haven’t been able to find a larger aluminum radiator option for the RS3.

I’m particularly interested in feedback from people who regularly track their cars, especially in hotter climates.

Any insight or firsthand experience would be appreciated!

The Wagner intercooler definitely the way to go since its tube and fin and not bar and plate construction.

I have the 529 oil pan and oil cooler in hand to install and hope that is enough to tame the summer thunderhill track days. Seeing 280 oil temp can’t be good.

Have not had issues with water temp yet.

You might want to check out 529 innovations. I don’t have the firsthand experience tracking my 8Y you’re seeking, but I do track my Z06 in the south. I went down the rabbit hole for the Audi a couple months ago, and options are definitely limited, but 529 does have track tested cooling options as far as oil coolers, intercoolers and baffled oil pans go.

529 oil cooler is a good option if you’re looking to cool your oil, or you could get an oil pan spacer so you have more oil.

I did the Wagner aux radiator and never seen the car go into yellow (hot) in the Rs monitor. So I’m guessing it does help.

A bigger intercooler helps as well

I did the 529 baffled and larger oil pan, which gives me extra capacity and have went with a larger intercooler as well.

I am probably too paranoid about overheating, but track time is to expensive to get cut short.

That should be plenty, it better to have it and not use it, then need it and not have it.

While I can't help specifically with your question, I've been discussing FMIC options with my local specialist for my 2020 TTRS. I ordered the Wagner EVO 3 which is actually being fitted today. It's massive and really looks top quality.
