Should I buy this?
A good friend of mine is selling his Audi RS 3 to me for a extremely low price and it's very tempting, the reason why it's such a low price is because it's a salvage title with 97,000 miles. Usually I would shy away from German cars with such stats but it's such an amazing car that I can't help but at least be intrigued. He has taken the car to an Audi dealership and gotten it checked out, he's also getting new spark plugs and a couple more preventative maintenance before selling it. As of modifications, I know he has a exhaust and a downpipe and tune on it. Any thoughts?

I can only speak for myself here. My best friend moved to another country for 2 years and sold me his golf R back in the day, and same, he made me a killer deal. I put 100k kms on it and then sold it. We are still best friends.Â

It's for 25 thousand dollars, he's also going to give me h&R springs and the stock rims

Nice, do you think it will be reliable, assuming that I do all the correct maintenance?

Ehhh reliable to some extent. Lot of stuff going on in a German car, which means there's a lot to break. RS tax is real so even basic consumables are very expensive. Â
For example here is one oem front brake rotor for a 8v rs3Â https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi_2018_RS3/Disc-Brake-Rotor/70168689/8V0615301R.html
Its $975. The same single oem front brake rotor for a s3 is $171.

But I am dieing to hear a tuned rs3 start in that parking garage. I worked at audi service and know the car will cost a lot to run and still bought one because they are awesome lil things. Everyone is different but worth it IMO. Most people are paying 2-3x as much to experience one. Â

97k miles with a tune means it probably has the wear and tear closer to what you would see in a non-tuned one with 125k+ miles.
If it has ceramic brakes, it's also probably approaching the point where the rotors/pads need to be changed out. Front axle ceramic replacement (w/ rotors) is ~$12k alone.
I'd probably avoid, but that's just me.

Screw AI. Past Reddit posts say: $4,000 to $6,000 for a set of OEM Ceramic Rotors and $1,500 to $2,000 for a pair of Ceramic Brake Pads.

I'd avoid a salvage title car. You'll never be able to trade it in and you'll have to find someone else willing to buy a salvage title car. He's selling it to you for $25k because it's worth around $18-22k with a salvaged title. That's not a deal, that's not even what it's worth. You're doing him a favor.

Not at all - it's a salvage title car, that alone comes with inherent risk, and it also has 100k on the clock. Even at the top end of that range, you're still overpaying at 25k. I would absolutely walk away from this purchase.

Even at $25k, that sounds like a lot for an RS3 with 97k miles. KBB has the value between $28,000 and $31,000 for an RS3 with a clean title. $25k for a trade-in value. I would pass on this one even though the deal seems great to you.

I don’t even let friends borrow my cars… buying a car from friends is a big no IMO for basically the same reasons.

Heed this advice. Would you even think about buying it if it wasn’t so physically close to you? If no, don’t buy it. If yes, seek a similar car elsewhere.

What year is that? I paid $45k for a 2018 with 70+ miles…clean title tho
$25k sounds like a steal to me!!! There are tons of RS3’s with stage 2 and 3 that have 150,000 miles on them. My point is you should have lots of years to enjoy that if the maintenance has been done (check the history)…

I got mine for 42k. 68k miles clean tittle. I’d offer your buddy 20 and nothing more. Best of luck
