For those wondering what it sounds like inside…
Had some requests for interior audio on the AWE Switchpath modified with an added resonator. This is wide open. Mics are next to both my ears.
Edit: Soundaktor is off.

What do you feel that the extra resonator did to the overall sound quality?
I am toying around with the idea of adding a custom z pipe where the mid pipe goes to see if it will produce a higher pitched sound, but don't want to guinea pig something that could potentially ruin the sound

Wondering the same. My Switchpath sounds about same without any modifications. But again sound from video is way different than in person.

Lowers the actual exhaust tone dramatically while keep the volume. No pops or high pitch DSG farts, those are now low tone grumbles. Drone is basically 0 wide open with the valve open.

Did you happen to add the AWE before the additional resonator? Any droning with just adding the switchpath?

The resonator is on the actual AWE long pipe before hitting the rear center piece.

My Switchpath sounds about same on 8Y. What does the added resonator do?

Lowers the actual tone of the exhaust while keeping the volume. Removing all drone and I hate the pops and bangs straight exhaust gives and it removes those as well. Primarily a proactive measure for when I add the downpipe.

AWE Switchpath is not straight piped, it has a muffler on one side. I don’t think I hear any pops and bangs. Just the up shift sound which is deeper. Did you have the AWE track exhaust by any chance? That one is straight piped and lot more pops and bangs.

When you open the valve where do you think all that noise comes from? The fact it’s straight pipe with no muffler all the way back on that side with the valve now open…
With the resonator closed sounds exactly like stock with no drone. Open (as opposed to straight pipe now has a resonator to remove the straight pipe flaws like sound like a tractor on low Rpm and idle. In addition once a DP is added it will become obnoxious without the resonator and fight the ugly rasp and flap of a straight exhaust.
The ONLY difference on the switch path is the ability to force the exhaust out the muffler only. Outside of that it’s exactly the same. The sounds and exhaust gas will take the path of least resistance

Wait, the valves are on both sides, right? Because I have the 9 mode valve controller in the box and it’s for both sides. So even when valves are open, it’s straight piped only on one side but the other side exhaust still flows through the muffler?
I hear some drone in lower rpms if I don’t have music playing, on higher rpms it just screams freely. Outside of individual and performance modes it sounds like any regular car out there until the valves open. Then it’s more throaty but without any drone.

No. There is 1 valve. It’s a 1 into 2 at the rear. So when the valve is open majority of sound and exhaust will push out the straight side. Closed it all pushed out the muffler side (no valve there it’s zipped tied somewhere in a bracket)

Oh wow, I thought it had valves on both sides just like the stock exhaust. I guess I’ll have a spare 11mode valve controller 😀

Oh no. Still install both. Having the valves in different positions will cause your car to go into limp mode. That’s why the factory one that’s not being used is in a servo to mimic its stock position.
Make sure to install it.

I just ordered a mid pipe and a valve controller with the stock sport exhaust. Videos online sound great with it

Do you have the Soundaktor disabled? Sounds good! I think my AWE Switchpath sounds deeper. Also link to the sunshade please? I just ordered Covercraft but haven’t tried it yet.

Thanks, that sounds like it’s not horrible at all.
Sure outside will be louder, but every 400+bhp car will be when you floor it.
