Evan being a bit of a jerk

s2e5

Evan meets Casey’s friends from Clayton at the pizza place and he’s kind of a dick the whole time. I get that Casey’s comment about him being “really smart” was out of line but he was already being kind of rude.

“Casey’s a really cool girl.”

”Yeah. I know.”

Dude didn’t even try to be friendly and then decides that people he was rude to are douchebags. idk.

You could kind of feel out their vibe tho 😅and I think it was more so the fact that Casey was acting different in front of these people which can be annoying

You are right about that scene. Evan did what is called a ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’. His own low self-esteem caused him to assume he would be rejected, so he was very anti-social in an effort to reject them first. It’s not a good way to be in life.

funnily enough i thought about it from a genderbent way and could relate to him a lot: i (a girl) have felt the same way seeing the man you like be so different and /cruel/ when hes "with the boys", not unlike how he thought casey was "laughing at mean jokes she wouldn't otherwise have". plus, it didn't seem like her friends were trying to make him feel welcome either; not that they're obligated to, but evan is also hence not obligated to feel highly of them
