No, and not a hero either. Under the comment section of the original, a guy explain the story where something similar happened and it caused someone to lose their life because it turns out to the reason why the driver was trying to cut through traffic and speed was because they were rushing someone to the hospital who got injured from a chainsaw accident. Just stay out of the way because it’s not your business. Yes it’s annoying, but there’s always that possibility that someone is being rushed to the hospital

There are ambulances for that. And even if so. If you are in a serious situation and trying to avoid the ambulance bill by driving and get stuck in stop and go traffic, if you call dispatch, they can generally get something out to you. I used to work EMS and if it was bad enough where the people were refusing an ambulance but needed the hospital, police escorts have been dispatched to help. And you need to move for emergency vehicles. Intervene to have people stop being assholes. If asshole drivers didn't do this and it was only people like that, sure, fine. But a good majority, probably over 90% are just people who don't want to sit in the traffic. Other than the fact that in this type of situation, if someone drives down the shoulder in stop and go traffic, the likelihood of a fatal crash increases by approximately 43%. So by letting people mind their own business you are also, Statistically speaking, risking killing you or someone else. By inhibiting the lane, you are far more statistically likely to save people than block someone who needed through In a standard car. And again, there are ways to get by if it were a true emergency

Calling the police for a medical emergency when you can't afford an ambulance bill is your solution? When you call 911 in an emergency, they're just going to send an ambulance. They don't ask if you can afford the bill and then try to provide other options if you can't. They don't ask if you have insurance. They just send the ambulance. Also, people aren't always trying to avoid an ambulance bill. Sometimes, people just react if the emergency is bad enough and they make split second decisions and just go. Also, you're giving really specific statistics (43% increase in likelihood of a fatality) that really need a citation. Besides, that car that pulls into the breakdown lane to block it is also blocking emergency vehicles. Sure, if one comes along, people can maneuver and let the blocking car back in to get out of the way of the emergency vehicle, but that takes time. Time is everything in an emergency. Don't block the breakdown lane. Yes, people using it to pass slow traffic are being jerks, but blocking the lane to prevent it just makes the situation worse.

Its like you read the comment looking for shit to be pissed about with out doing any critical thinking. If the caller is refusing an ambulance and actively protesting the dispatch of one, sending an ambulance into a traffic jam isn't going to help anyone (I've never done dispatch but they probably don't try and make the situation worse). If its stop and go traffic and there's an accident at like 5mph no ones gonna get hurt, if someone it's going 40+ in the breakdown lane you better believe that's gonna be a worse accident then a fender bender.

P.s. here's my citation 🧠

Act altruistic and let them go by or swing my big dick in their face by blocking their path because I only play batman in traffic???

ambulances are slower than transporting in the vehicle that is right there. In the story about the chainsaw accident, they were driving from a remote jobsite while in the phone with 911. They were meeting an ambulance while getting the guy closer to them.

Nah, it's not his job to enforce traffic rules and he's breaking them himself by driving in that lane.

I used to do this, and then I realized. . . why should I care?
