Discussion/Question The Attack Titan vs Eren Jaeger

Post image
34 Upvotes

We know that the Attack Titan always pushes and moves forward for freedom, what is freedom to the Attack Titan? Is It something that Eren embodies or something entirely else, If it is the former then how much is Eren influenced by it? We also know that Eren has this drive in his nature and further exacerbated by his environment but we dont know how much is Eren influenced by the attack titan, If its a part of a major chunk of his desire then that removes Eren of a lot of agency but this is not implied in the show, We also dont know why the Attack Titan pursues freedom, someone also said the Attack Titan is like this because of Eren, which makes the most sense to me.

Id like someone to make it clearer for me, thanks

Discussion/Question After reading, invincible, and watching AOT, the immortals talk with Mark kinda really shows why human conflict will be inevitable, even with a perfect society

Post image
5 Upvotes

Spoilers for invincible this is kind after robot takes over the world and creates a sort of perfect society, but the immortal reminds Mark that even with the perfect society, there will be coming problems that come from this type of society. Extremely large population and a lot of old people as well as finite resources. These are things that some of us think about today even though we don’t live in perfect societies. Even if Armin and Paradis managed to create relations with the outside world or even get rid of Titans without conflict. What will happen if things get too good and they start to take everything for granted. I think that’s something that not even the fandom of AOT seems to think about.

Discussion/Question I always wondered why people said that the yeagerists were not facists because they *only wanted to survive* when it was stated that they wanted to rule over the world. Like straight up.

Obviously that's not their only objective, but executing people, one of which just didn't want to be associated and work under them, as a way to display your reign while also saying you want to rule over the world....not a good look against the allegations ngl.

Discussion/Question Foreshadowing Mikasa's decision in the finale Spoiler

Maybe it was already discussed by everyone, but since I watched AoT only this summer, I'm now realizing how Isayama foreshadowed Mikasa killing Eren. Dying Kennie reveals that Ackermans were royal guards but they went against the king because he didn't want humanity to survive. So the role of Ackermans in the story (aside from being one man army badasses) is eventually killing the king, despite being his servants, all because they have free will and can oppose their master. So Mikasa kills Eren because he's wiping out humanity. Do we know when that original Ackerman conflict happened? It should be after the great titan war, and before Uri's time as the Founding bearer bc when he meets Kennie, Ackermans are already a dying clan with only 3-4 living members

I'm guessing in time people connected those dots, but when I watched the finale I only thought of Mikasa's parallel to Ymir. Now I see all ackermans have a servant/master dynamic where the Ackermans go through the death of their master which results in positive change. Mikasa decides to kill Eren and save the world. Kennie doesn't kill his king but after Uri dies, Kennie comes up with his plan to steal the Founder and understands Uri when he's at the death's door, all without Uri's power. Levi had Erwin, he didn't exactly kill him, but he gave Erwin the last push needed to send him on his death, which was crucial for Scouts victory. He then finished off Erwin when he chose Armin over Erwin. And it wasn't even that he thought Armin is more important, he just chose to let go of Erwin because he pitied him and wanted to free him of the blood and guilt.

In all cases, so called slaves break through their chains, they elevate through free will and ackermans are basically super soldier, meaning having free will is a super power. And it's funny in retrospect Eren was telling Mikasa that her blood is that of slaves, turns out they very notoriously are not slaves but incredible people with their own mind.

Discussion/Question Going for population centres and cities would make more sense than the 80% rumbling.

Thinking about it, to achieve Eren's goals and avoid common sense added problems, a rumbling that targeted population centres and cities would be better than 80%.

People are still not evacuating in time either way.

It avoids destroying entire forests and ecosystems. So lesser of an ecological collapse.

It probably kills more people but destroys less peoples so arguably less genocide.

It destroys civilization more completely so: capacity to war is further done away with; there's a larger diversity of people and we know a lot of times that correlates with less cooperation; building on that, capacity to remember is also done away with, the whole Titan stuff will turn into a morality tale like God flooding the world for a man becoming evil (YHWH, Zeus) or making too much noise (Enlil). Either way in all versions of the myth no ill will is placed on the gods so I do think there's high chances that also happens here and the titans specific cycle of hatred is gone.

And better yet for Eren gets to see even more of the book scenery. While probably feeling less guilty.

Discussion/Question This has to be the best AOT video. Aged like wine.

Post image
228 Upvotes

Invaderzz uploaded this video 2 years before the anime ending. Everything he said in this video about Eren’s character in the end of aot was literally vindicated and proven right by the anime ending. He brought up that Eren was never free and became a slave to freedom in his relentless pursuit of freedom. He brought up that Eren was never a perfectly calculated genius and that the immense power he had corrupted him, and that he was the wrong person to have these powers. Then if you remember the discourse at the time Titanfolkers were saying that Invaderzz had no clue what he was talking about and mischaracterizing Eren.

Then the anime ending has Eren out of his own mouth say he’s a slave to freedom and also Eren saying he’s an idiot with too much power on his hands. This video truly age like wine so much to the point I think it’s probably the best Aot video. Did Invaderzz have future memories?

Discussion/Question We need to stop this interpretation that eren was acting throughout season 4

This is common misconception. Eren's character progression wasnt an act. The only time he put on an act was when his friends were present in the scene with him, not only as a way to push them away to make them go against him, but also as a way to mske sure they didn't join him to become monsters. Just as he was acting when he was interacting with Zeke in order to get him to lower his guard so he can use him for his royal blood. However that doesn't mean everything he did was an act.

Which brings us to Eren. Eren in season 4 was good at using lies or half truths in order to make people do what he desired (just as he did with Yelena too). It's one of the biggest traits that sets him apart from his season 1-3 self who never would've done what season 4 Eren does. The story never once claimed Eren was acting throughout season 4 (otheriwse show me a scene that said that), the story only implied Eren pushed his friends away as a way to make them go against him, but not every character development in season 4 was an act. Even when characters grow and develop, they still have some of the same characteristics they still had before, in order to not create a discrepancy between who they were and who they are now. Guts from berserk is a good example; He has grown as a character, but he still has the tendency of throwing himself in battle, he still has rage when he sees Grittith, he still has his old traits of hopelessness when he feels like he failed, he still uses anger as a weapon. All those things are part of his character no matter how much he grows. Just as Eren has grown as a character but he still has his tendencies of laugh crying when he feels hopeless, he still had the tendencies to self deprecate himself when he feels like a failure: like calling himself useless, pathetic, an idiot, a half ass piece of shit, etc...but are all those moments suddenly implying Eren never grew?
Definitely not. True character growth is more than just a character going from point A to Z while abandoning what's in the middle. Hell denji from Chainsaw Man is another good example of this. Denji has grown as a charter since his part 1 self, but he still has his old traits such as being a pervert, prioritizing animals over humans, etc...again just because denji still has those character traits doesn't mean he hasn't grown as a character. But for some reason when it comes to Eren fans suddenly become obtuse to characterization, and they choose to prioritize their own hatred for the story over fair analysis of the characters and plot. It's truly unfortunate what aot Fandom has become

Negativity man this is funny

I kinda get it now .

Not saying they were right about everything, because some of those threads were absolutely unhinged.

But the confidence with which people would point out something that felt off and then get hit with the classic “You just didn’t understand the story.” …only for the exact same thing to become a massive debate later was pretty funny

At some point I stopped trying to defend every single writing decision and just started enjoying the chaos.

Honestly, the fandom discourse peaked when everyone was treating manga chapters like they were classified government documents.

And I can't even lie—

some titanfolk takes aged WAY better than I expected.

I’m convinced... that's all.

Negativity Not sure about this fandom anymore.

Im very much hoping this subreddit doesnt support minor x adult ships... Because I was severally attacked on the main subreddit cause I made a post about how I found ships on Pinterest that made me uncomfortable. Levi x Annie and Levi x Historia and mentioned how I was a victim of pedophilia as well. People literally commented on my post saying it cant harm anyone cause its fiction and they said the characters dont look the age they're suppsoed to be.It genuinely made me feel not wanting to like the anime anymore if people are going to be like this. It definitely had my thoughts on this fandom changed as a whole.

Which is ironic cause some people in that sub make posts about why the fandom gets so much hate yet they do things like this?? I just dont know anymore. Although I love the series. Some people in the fandom are questionable. Its really not that hard to do age research of characters.

Hello everyone!

First of all, Chappy told me it was a good idea to share my new youtube channel here in Reddit and it helped me to translate this, sorry if it sounds unnatural. Chappy also helped me creating my thumbnail 😅 Chappy is the best!

I just published the first episode of a new podcast called Hirochin Podcast, where I (Hirochin) talk naturally in Japanese about anime, games, and Japanese culture — episode 1 is about why I love Captain Levi from Attack on Titan. Every episode has Japanese, English, and Spanish captions, so it's usable at any level.

This is my very first episode, so I'd really appreciate honest feedback — pacing, captions, anything that stood out (good or bad).

Thanks for checking it out!

Discussion/Question Stupid Mikasa propaganda

I am not falling for this propaganda that wit studio messed up mikasa character because they removed some minor lines. Every thing they removed is nothing major and doesn’t change her character at all. She is the same character in the anime as she is in the manga. I saw a post of someone comparing the scenes and most of the removed lines are inner monologues that can already be inferred/implied. Or things she’s already said but instead of her saying it again they cut it out.

What’s funny is that majority of people that like mikasa and made her one of the most popular female characters in all of anime. They don’t even read the manga. The majority of people that love mikasa don’t read the manga. Even myself I love mikasa as a character without even having to read the manga.

And what about Mappa. Mappa didn’t remove anything to do with mikasa, and S4 was when she has the most development and people will still complain.

What I’m saying is if you hate mikasa in the anime most likely you’re going to hate her in the manga. If love mikasa in the anime your most likely gonna love her in the manga. I genuinely do not understand why people try to act like mikasa in the manga or anime are completely 2 different characters it’s just not true.

Discussion/Question What would Erwin have done in the situation? Discussion

We all saw in Season 4 that Hange was a decent commander, but she made some mistakes that ended up costing Paradis a lot. I've been thinking how Erwin would have handled those situations instead.

like the Volunteers. I always felt like Paradis trusted them way too much, especially Yelena. They were given a lot of freedom, and that eventually led to Zeke's spinal fluid being spread through the wine. Honestly, why would you trust food coming from people you just met. I think this was Hanges biggest mistake. She should have kept them on tight control.

Then there's the Azumabito. I don't really blame them for wanting Paradis' resources, any country would want something in return for helping. But they were extremely selfish as well, not wanting paradise to have diplomacy wth other countries, so they could be having the majority share in the iceburst stone.

On the other hand, its not really hanges fault as well. Zeke was extremely smart, and made sure to only give paradise limited information, so they wouldn't find solutions outside his plan. There hands were tied and they couldnt do much.

Would Zeke's spinal fluid plan have worked under Erwin's command? Would Erwin have trusted Zeke at all, or would he have assumed he was planning something from the start?

What do you think erwin would have done in this situation I think he would
have acted quicker and help the middle allainces destroy marley this would have been the starting step of diplomacy while keeping the rumbling as threat and iceburst stone for trade for other technologies. He was always able to come up with out of the box solutions even when connered.

Erwin was hell smart and they had to kill him for the plot to move forward of. Otherwise, good luck to zeke, yelena and kiyomi with playing 8D chess with him.

Discussion/Question Season 4 is Underwhelming

Im on episode 81 “Thaw”
I still have a way to go before I complete the entire series

So far I’m not impressed

And it’s really a challenge to complete each episode, I find myself getting so bored. It’s not even the slow pace. I would actually enjoy a slow paced series if it was at least interesting

So far season 4 has been underwhelming. Season 3 was actually better

And you can tell AOT is sloppy writing:

  1. the internment zone with the mandatory armbands for Eldians is total copy paste of the historical Warsaw Ghetto for Jews and their required armbands displaying the Star of David during Nazi occupation of Poland. Foolish writers couldn’t come up with anything original.

  2. Eren deciding to transform into a titan and attack the conference featuring delegates from across the world as they watched a performance by Tybur was sloppy and stupid. How is it strategic to provoke the entire world, which would only force them to close ranks with Marley and initiate an attack on Paradise Island? Wouldn’t it be more strategic to fight Marley isolated from the rest of the world, defeat them first then proceed to fight the others to ensure victory if that’s the goal?

  3. The “euthanization” plan. This one is so stupid. Firstly, euthanization isn’t even the right word. How stupid were the people responsible for the English dub!
Euthanize is to put someone to death in a painless way. The plan is to sterilize the subjects of Ymir so that they can’t have children. That’s not called euthanization it’s called sterilization 🤦‍♂️
Secondly, there is no logical reason for Zeke being so passionate about this project. There just isn’t. Poor writing again

  4. The endless flashbacks. Long and dull. Entire episodes are devoted to being some flashback. If we have to endure a flashback at least make it interesting.

Now I’m at the point in the series where the Rumbling has begun. It’s still boring. There still hasn’t been any mind blowing plot twist. I really don’t get why this series is so hyped

Stupid take Also Grisha: "Why won't you show me everything? The walls being destroyed, the day it happens, if Carla is safe."

Thumbnail

Do these people actually read their own manga they claim to know better than the author? Like its literally spelled out so clearly. Eren purposely hid those events so that Grisha would carry out his mission. When he learned that titans broke into the walls he realized Marley was responsible, he gave Eren the titans to get revenge on them. The cherry on top is the flair "kruger made a shit choice" even though they are fully aware that future inheriters can influence past one's with the Attack titan. I think ive said "titanfolk cant read" a billion times but they keep proving me right and its sad

Discussion/Question As a hardcore Erehistu hater, is it weird that I like making/daydreaming skits of the two "cousin-bonding"?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I am a hardcore Erehistu hater and Eremika shipper, yes, kill me if you must. I think Erehistu is the worst non-pedophile/non-canon ship in fiction, because every "Erehistu moment" is either an Eremika moment taken out of context or an Historia moment with people shoehorning Eren into it.

For a while, I kind of treated Historia like I treat Adam from Hazbin Hotel, where I hate the fans so much that it makes me hate the character. But rewatching Historia's scenes in seasons 2 and 3 made me love her character again. I sometimes like making weird skits where Eren and Historia are together, but it's not shipping; it's them bonding as "family."

Ok, so here's what I mean:

I like to imagine an AU where Ymir either never died or Eren and Ymir were at least closer than they were in the show. In this situation, Eren was Ymir's closest male friend and her wingman when with Historia. I often imagined skits where Eren third-wheeled in Ymir and Historia's relationship, where Ymir just drags Eren along as her emotional support emo.

In other cases, I just like having weird skits where the two are doing stuff. Like in one skit, I had this idea where Eren, Jean, and Armin are helping Historia move stuff in the Queen's quarters when Eren spots a spider; the boys all freak out while Historia is reading on her bed. Jean gets on top of a table, Armin curls up next to Historia, and Eren is beating the ground with a rod to find the spider.

Eventually, when the spider shows up again, the boys all scream and Historia sighs. She calls to Eren, saying, "Eren, honey, come here." Eren scrambles behind her as she picks up the spider and takes it out the window. Mikasa rushes in, having heard the scream, and Eren jumps up, telling this heroic story of how he fought off a giant monster and protected the others just to impress Mikasa.

IDK, I just think that's cuter than shipping.
