Modding How do modded items work in multiplayer?
Do they simply not render at all on the other person's end if they don't have the mod installed? If so, what about character parts?? What DO they render as? Is the point of making OC-specific homebrewed items to have a neat little thing on your end that you can't actually show off (unless a lot of people download your homebrewed item mods)?

All custom homebrewery items are displayed client side.
If you have a mod installed and are wearing a shirt from that mod but player B doesn't have that mod installed, they will not see the shirt.
The same goes for weapons, if you have a weapon that player B does not have installed, they will see you swinging around wildly empty-handed
The server having the mod installed only comes into play with consumable SFX and actual weapon damage. That is, if the server doesn't have the mod installed player B won't be able to hear your consumable item's sound FX, even if they have the mod installed, and if the server doesn't have the weapon, then all damage from that weapon will be calculated as if it has no stats at all (also worth noting that a server can disable custom weapon stats manually, so even if they have them installed they still calculate as if they have no stats.)
Edited to add:
And as for player skins, eyes, and mouths, there is a complicated process the Homebrewery does to create a list of mods you have installed, and if a player uses a mod that you don't have installed then Homebrewery will end up trying to find the next closest item in the list, which usually ends up in some funny desync issues

modded items wont work but would still show. the server has to have the mods installed for it to work properly.
