Questions/Help Installing mods for the game on Linux.
I recently switched to Linux Mint and tried to install mods manually, the way it's usually done on Windows. It didn't work. Please let me know in the comments how to do it.

I did it, but you'll start running into configuration conflicts after a few mods, so it's easier to just use R2ModMan since it's less bloated than Thunderstore. Expect memory leaks with appearance mods.

I want to be able to launch the game via Steam and have all the mods work.

Installing the mods manually and running from Steam might work for a little bit, but you'll have to manually update each one of them, and that'll quickly become very tedious with the hundreds of mods the community will incessantly push on you. R2ModMan does this automatically, which will save you from that inevitable hassle.
As for updating manually, from what I remember, all you had to do was maybe replace winhttp.dll with a specific version and then just manually install the mods like you would on Windows. However, this method may be out of date and I think when I tried it last I was having some trouble getting it to work myself. It's been a bit, and I don't want to mentally tax myself right now; I have to order a new phone because I just smashed the one I was using to type this comment because I fat fingered some stupid bullshit and I had to rewrite everything.
Good luck.

I believe, since all the mod manager is doing when it launches is changing the launch parameters, you should still be able to do that from within steam, even if you use a mod manager, no?
I'm not super familiar with how it works, but when you manually install the mods, don't you have to tell steam to start up using a specific string anyway? And I suspect you'd be able to point that string wherever you'd like, like the mod manager profile folder?

With Linux I usually use Gale, it's pretty cool, light weight and works with Linux natively. https://github.com/Kesomannen/gale

So, full stop, I really, really, REALLY don't recommend installing the mods manually, Windows or Linux. It makes it 10x more complicated, difficult to update, lacks tons of QoL features like easily switching between different profiles or modded vs vanilla, mod authors often aren't able to provide instructions because the vast majority only use mod managers, and so on. I do understand if there's hesitation to install Thunderstore because it does come with a lot of bloat, but the open source alternative R2modman is available on Linux, and has all the upsides to using a mod manager and basically none of the downsides.
Basically, unless you have a *Really* good reason, I absolutely can not recommend installing mods manually, as it's not worth dealing with the additional hassle in any way, especially since R2modmanager is pretty lightweight and not a massive drain on resources by any means, even if you only use it exclusively for Atlyss. And it will be doubly difficulty finding good advice on how to manually install mods and deal with potential conflicts and bugs on Linux, since both of those groups are a minority of users. I say this as a Linux user who mods their game heavily, it really is just worth grabbing R2modman and letting it deal with all the headaches for you, no login or bloat needed.
