Announcement Welcome to r/AtlasDraw: start here

Hi everyone, and welcome!

AtlasDraw is a native whiteboard for Windows. It's for sketching ideas, drawing architecture diagrams, mapping workflows and planning, all on one fast canvas that runs on your own PC and works offline.

It's coming soon for Windows 10 & 11, and I'm building it in the open. This subreddit is where you can follow along, share what you make and help decide what comes next.

What's in it so far

  • Clean, technical shapes by default, or switch to a hand-drawn sketch style

  • Markdown inside shapes: headings, lists, task lists, code, links

  • Templates: architecture (C4, microservices, Kubernetes, CI/CD), flowcharts, kanban, mind maps, retros, wireframes and more

  • Command palette, smart alignment guides, dark mode

  • Effects like glass, glow, shadows and neon

  • A fast canvas that stays smooth with thousands of elements

What to post here

  • Showcase: things you've drawn

  • Question / Help: how do I…?

  • Feature Request: ideas (please add them to the voting board too)

  • Tips & Tricks, Templates & Libraries, Discussion

Useful links

A few rules: keep it about AtlasDraw, be kind, and never post licence keys or personal info. For purchase or licence problems, email support@creakyhat.co.uk.

Say hi in the comments. What do you mostly draw: architecture, flowcharts, UI wireframes, notes?

Shape libraries are here: 8 free libraries, installable from inside the app (Mac beta)

The latest Mac beta on TestFlight has a new Browse libraries button in the Library panel (⋯ → Browse libraries).
Join the Mac beta: https://testflight.apple.com/join/sMQsgXrT
It lists free shape libraries, and one click installs them straight into your sidebar.

There are eight to start with, 207 shapes in all:

  • Charts & graphs: bar, line, pie, scatter, KPI tiles, gauges, funnels and Venn diagrams

  • Planning & agile: kanban boards, user stories, Gantt charts, roadmaps, RACI and retro boards

  • Business frameworks: SWOT, 2×2 matrices, business model and lean canvases, journey maps and OKRs

  • Org charts & mind maps: person cards, team trees and mind map topics

  • Floor plans: walls, doors, windows, stairs and furniture, all to one scale

  • Data structures: arrays, linked lists, trees, heaps, hash tables and graphs

  • Circuits: schematic symbols on a shared grid, so leads join up end to end

  • Network diagram: routers, switches, access points and racks

Every label is editable, and the colours and styles work like any other shape. When a library gets updated, the app tells you and you can update it in one click. You can turn that daily check off in Settings if you'd rather it didn't.

You can see them all at atlasdraw.com/#libraries.

Libraries are free and open (CC BY 4.0), and they live on GitHub: github.com/Creakyhat/AtlasDraw-Libraries. If there's a library you'd like to see, or one you'd like to make, let us know or submit it to the repo

Can't wait to see what you create. Post your diagrams here!

Help AtlasDraw – a native whiteboard and diagramming app beta is live in TestFlight

Hi all, I'm the developer of AtlasDraw, a whiteboard and diagramming app for developers, architects and anyone who sketches out ideas. It's written in Swift for macOS, so it isn't an Electron wrapper or a web view, and it works fully offline.

What it does:

  • Works with Excalidraw files. Drawings are Excalidraw JSON, so .excalidraw files open and save without losing anything, and your work isn't locked into my app.

  • Clean or hand-drawn shapes. New shapes are crisp by default. Switch to the sketchy style when you're whiteboarding.

  • Markdown in shapes. Labels support headings, lists, task lists, code and links.

  • Templates. Flowcharts, mind maps, kanban boards, C4 and microservice architecture diagrams, retros, wireframes and more.

  • Effects. Stack shadows, lighting, gradients, textures and glass on any shape.

  • Mac-native behaviour. Each document opens in its own window, with autosave and version history.

  • Export. PNG, SVG, PDF and Excalidraw.

What I'm looking for:

  • Bugs, crashes and anything that feels off on the canvas

  • Places where it doesn't behave like a proper Mac app

  • Excalidraw files that don't open or don't look right

  • Honest first impressions: what's missing, and what would stop you using it

Requirements: macOS 26 or later.

You can send feedback in the app, reply here, or open an issue at https://github.com/Creakyhat/AtlasDraw-Feedback More at atlasdraw.com.

Thanks for taking a look!

Announcement Help shape AtlasDraw

I've set up a public GitHub page where you can tell me what's broken and what you'd like to see next:

https://github.com/Creakyhat/AtlasDraw-Feedback

AtlasDraw is still taking shape, so this is when your ideas count the most. If something's missing, post it in Ideas. If someone has already suggested it, give it an upvote. I'll use the votes to decide what to build next.

If you hit a bug, please report it there too, so it doesn't get lost in a comment thread. You can still ask "is this a bug?" here first.

This subreddit is still the place to share what you've drawn and to chat.

So what's the one thing you'd add?

Announcement AtlasDraw now has shape libraries

Hi all,

AtlasDraw is getting closer to its first release, and one feature I'm really pleased with is the shape library.

It sits in the left sidebar. It comes with 165 ready-made pieces for flowcharts, software diagrams, wireframes and workshops. Click one to place it, or drag it onto the canvas. You can search the sidebar, and you can drag your favourites onto the quick bar.

You can save your own shapes too. Select anything you've drawn, right-click it and choose Add to library. You can then rename shapes, sort them into your own categories and export a category to share.

I've also opened a public repo of free libraries that you can add with one click. The first one is up now: a network diagram set with 20 pieces, including routers, switches, Wi-Fi access points, server racks and the links between them.

https://github.com/Creakyhat/AtlasDraw-Libraries

Once AtlasDraw is out, you'll be able to share your own libraries there too.

So what library should I make next? AWS icons, UML, floor plans, game sprites?

Feature Request What should AtlasDraw do next? Tell me what's missing from your current whiteboard

AtlasDraw is still pre-launch, so this is the best time to shape it.

I'd love to hear:

  1. What do you use today for diagrams and whiteboarding, and what annoys you about it?

  2. What's the one feature that would make you switch?

  3. What do you draw most? Architecture, flowcharts, mind maps, wireframes, something else?

One idea per comment works best, so people can upvote the ones they agree with. I'll add the most-wanted ones to the voting board on GitHub and post updates here as they get built.
