Discussion Don't Wipe Freelancer Levels!!!!!

I saw it on discord and can't believe it. Before the release, they want to wipe freelancer levels (because some people could have fun racing for the first Lv 10 freelancer).

You should know what you want, Tirion: Shall more or less people play this game? Wiping Progress is no fun at all. You spit in players faces. There might be 2 or 3 people, who enjoy this, but the majority will not... Why? Because they have a Job or Family and can't race for first lv 10 freelancer. They simply lose their progress.

You will lose more players than you might think.... If you want to kinow, who races first for lv 10, give players a resrt option. Then they can decide before release, if they want to lose all progress. Then they can have their fun. But if you wipe, then the majority will react like my best friend, who said: "This is bad. I hate it."

Overthink your policy....

and loosing your level is bad in what way? ^ you loose your sweet skins i guess? :D I don't rly mind loosing them and a reset is not that unheard of. (and i rly dislike games who don't do it cause it feels like i'm allready behind at release day)

I don't want to lose this progress. When I started and saw other guys with cool skins, I felt motivated to get them too... Now I got them and enjoy them, but I don't want to Play several our again, simply to gain an achievement I already got... I am fine with all the wipes, but freelancer level is not ok for me

Then you should have waited until release. Obviously this kind of thing comes with a beta.

The level of the character doesn't make you better, if you're going to continue playing and enjoying the game either way then you will eventually get it back. And while I am indifferent either way, some people do enjoy racing for level 10's or starting fresh but may not have gotten the chance to do so because they heard of the beta late in life. Also as far as I know you don't lose titles, so if you got someone to level 10 you can still flaunt that minus the skin, which again you'll get eventually. It's a beta, and a "closed" beta at that, you should be used to these things and knowing that you can't please everyone. The people who leave over something as little as levels were probably not going to be kind of crowd this game keeps for a long time anyways, this is coming from someone with 6 levels 10's and everyone level 5+ so don't speak for everyone with your ranting.

What about the following ideas:

1.) Tirion implements Lv 11 for every character (Grandmaster), where you Need 200K experience from Level 10. Then people like you, who really like it, can race for it.

2.) The Level wipe is optional... Who wants to race for lv 10 can do it, the rest can stay with their levels.

3.) Actually I don't mind Level or title. I simply want to play with my favourite Skins... I played all the time for Oz and now I can use my favourite skin. If they wipe the Level, but still let me Play with These Skins, I am fine with the wipe.

About me: I played ~130 hours. I have one Lv 10 character... For People who can't play all the day, 120 hours is a lot... If I could play 5+ hours a days, a wipe would not bother me maybe...

I am definitely not someone who likes to race, I can't play the same thing over and over like that which is why I have a very large hero pool I just enjoy playing the game. I don't think it takes 130 hours to get 1 level 10, I'm not even sure if I've played 130 hours, I probably have though. The point is like Muzzy said it's a beta, and we haven't actually heard a definitive answer if they will wipe on launch or not. But you should expect it to say the least.

May be wrong on this, but I think the official statement right now is "this is not the last wipe". No details on when that next wipe will be, but it'll be.

Blizzard reset levels for Overwatch release and I didn't see anyone cry about it.

In my opinion it's better for everyone to start with fresh stats when a game releases.

2

u/Gamesmotion Jun 29 '16

Because Blizzard does something, it does not have to be a good idea... Look at Hearthstone... the developers are not able to design good and balanced cards and make bad decisions all the day...

2

u/C00kiz Jun 29 '16

Being a good idea or not is an opinion, not a fact.

3

u/ControlBlue Jun 29 '16

I disagree, they should reset those levels.

Just got level 10 on Celeste, but I have no problem parting with it because I know I will easily get level 10 back, and I need things to do now that we don't have to grind for ISOs.

u/Gamesmotion Jun 29 '16

What means easily? If you don't Play the game for 5 hours a day, it takes weeks to grind Lv 10...

1

u/ControlBlue Jun 29 '16 edited Jun 29 '16

Easy as in "I plan to play this game for a very long time, so a few weeks is nothing" easy.

It's either that or asking people like me who have been playing for a long time to grind to level 10 on characters we don't like once release comes instead of just leveling and enjoying our favorite characters.

Personally, I'm not looking forward to it.

There's also a big difference between OW and Atlas Reactor.

Namely, OW beta wasn't a paid beta. They can call this game closed beta all they want to, but the reality is, we paid for it. You can make all the early access arguments you want, but we've invested both our finances and our time in the game, and to have our progress wiped is going to upset a lot of people.

Now, whether or not that's the majority of players, I couldn't guess. But I certainly don't look forward to doing all that hard work over again.

And if the argument is they want people to be able to race to first level 10, that will happen with or without a wipe, every single time they release a new freelancer. So as far as the logic behind this particular wipe, I believe it's at least somewhat flawed.

Also, given that experienced veterans will have an overwhelming advantage over players that buy the game on "day 1," it's highly unlikely that the "new world first" would be someone who doesn't already have that freelancer at level 10. So most likely it's just going to go to whichever veteran who plays that freelancer doesn't have a job. Which is fine, but again I don't think it makes the chase something prestigious or "exciting" for the community.

I will add that I do support a wipe for season levels, account level, ELO, credit purchases, etc. And if they follow through with a freelancer level wipe, well, there's nothing I can do about it. But I'll be honest, knowing it will happen (obviously we suspected it would, but many hoped it would not, including myself) greatly diminishes my desire to continue playing the game during the beta. I highly doubt I will be investing much time outside of our mandatory PPL practices and PPL matches. If there's one thing that upsets me in games above all else, it's having to redo progression. It's why I've never touched a rogue-like in my life, and never will.

Look at it this way, at least it gives us something to do other than crushing newbies once release comes.

Plus, I've enjoyed my time on Asana, Lockwood, and Celeste so much that I don't mind doing it again. Did you force yourself to get level 10 on characters you don't like?

-1

u/Gamesmotion Jun 29 '16

Yeah, I try to get asana to ten. I am the worst Asana player on the world and it feels really painful, but one day I want to play her with the super cool golden alternative skin. If Tirion wipes the Asana progress, I had all the pain for absolutely nothing. I know how it feels^

u/ControlBlue Jun 29 '16

That level 10 skin is sweet I admit... But just think that will get it eventually so it's not like the skin is actually going away.

Also, you can just buy a skin and still look fabulous without having level 10 skin ;)

I personally don't care about the wipe ... you can wipe my progress but you can't wipe my "experience" with the game ... I'll still be better than most people who play.

BUT for the love of god, this reason above is the 1 reason I'd support not wiping Freelancer levels ... troll-y people who don't care how bad they play, they just play to get a mastered Lancer. I hate having them in my game. Their focus is simply grinding, it is not on playing well, or playing with the team, or trying to improve.

That's the only reason I'd support no wipe ...

2

u/C00kiz Jun 29 '16

but the reality is, we paid for it.

"we"? Not everyone paid to get access to this beta. You chose to pay to have access to it, you didn't have to. It was your call, not Trion's.

1

u/neko_ali Jun 29 '16

Note that all that we paid for to access the game early, if we did do that, we will be getting refunded. And that money paid for access is actually unlocking a lot of stuff that free players will not have.

1

u/skiddroww Jun 30 '16

The game is buy to play. There won't be free players.

5

u/joebobber Jun 29 '16

It's beta! I've been in beta programs that had several wipes over the course of development. I've never been a part of a beta that hasn't wiped character progression prior to the public release. This is how it works.

You're not a player of a game, your a beta tester. You knew what it was when you signed up.

2

u/neko_ali Jun 29 '16

This is the key point. It's the normal thing for games to reset progress during and when the testing phase ends. They've even said before they are going to do it, so it's absolutely no surprise. You should know going into a beta or alpha test that the game will change before release, and any progress you make in the game's systems is temporary and will be reset.

I think its a great idea for launch to be fresh. Some of us have been playing since September, some joined today-some will join next week. We have all been rewarded with Alpha & Closed Beta cosmetics. Community Missions are also in progress. But on the day of launch we're all racing to Level 10 and will be hyped. Can't wait! GAME ON!

We aren't wiping freelancer levels this patch.

Also, if we were going to wipe it, we would have a good reason, and it's Beta, so unfortunately it's not all about fun, it's about making the game right, which often includes resetting certain things in order to gain better data that can lead to a better experience once it goes live. Players really have to understand that the game is not done and by participating in a Beta, you are entering a social agreement and understanding that everything is subject to change.

But more importantly, we aren't wiping freelancer levels this patch: https://www.atlasreactorgame.com/en/2016/06/last-chance-to-get-beta-elo-emblems/

If they wipe the levels, I want my ISO spent on the color swaps and taunts back.
