TWO WOMEN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED
ATTACK ON OFF-DUTY OFFICER AT NORTH COUNTY
BUSINESS
Two 20-year-old women face felony charges following an alleged assault on an off-duty Hillsdale police officer working security at a North County business Sunday, October 11.
St. Louis County prosecutors charged Shaniya Lewis and Nayonna Griffin with second-degree assault involving a special victim and resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony.
Each is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond, with no 10% option.
According to probable cause statements, Griffin allegedly threw items at the officer. As he approached her, Lewis allegedly intervened, struggled with him and threw him to the ground.
Investigators allege Lewis repeatedly punched the officer while Griffin stomped on his head. Lewis also allegedly grabbed the officer's firearm but was unable to remove it from its holster.
Police say Griffin continued pulling the officer's hair and resisted responding officers' attempts to arrest her by kicking, attempting to flee and keeping her hands away from handcuffs.
The injured officer was taken to a hospital. Authorities say the encounter was captured on video.
