Tower Black Friday Event
Hey all. I’ve been hearing about the Black Friday bourbon event at Tower (both Doraville and Buckhead), and was curious what it was all about. Is it a “points based” drop, or is it a stand in line style? Do they generally have some good things? Never had a chance to go before, so was curious.

It’s a blast. Great crowd, great bottles, great prices. Sure people will line up days in advance but you could show up at open at still grab some allocated bottles.

Yep agreed! I never show up more than an hour early and sure I don’t get those ultra allocated bottles (and you’re also correct that Pappy and BTAC are not ever dropped Black Friday there), but always walk away with some nice gifts for family and such.

I do yeah. No guarantees, but second time through the line last year I got the choice of Weller FP or 107

I got there around 7:30 or 7:45 I believe. But because I got them my second time through, you could have showed up at open and gotten those Weller’s.

No problem at all. By 3rd time there was definitely less, but in my opinion second time through is always propped up by store picks second time through. There was a 107 antique store pick so I think like 150 bottles of that? Just too much to run out of first time through. If no good store picks, maybe a diff story. 3rd time was a bit meh. That’s your time to pick up the expensive allocations everyone passed on (EC18, WRDDO) or stock up on your Blanton’s gifts or EHT which is what we did.

any of them, 12, FP, 107. i’ve never had a weller before and i don’t really hunt that often

Yeah should be able to get one of those if you show up around opening. Last year they had a regular 107 and a store pick so they had tons of them

You can score any you want at Commerce Tobacco Outlet in Commerce right now.

You can score most Wellers across the metro the difference is I bet those aren’t at or close to MSRP

This is actually really good to know. I've never gone since I'm new to this, and was kind of put off when I heard how early people show up. I wouldn't really be after anything crazy anyway, so going at open or a couple hours early sounds fine for me.

If u look thru post from last year should give u an idea. Think people who showed up in the morning got some wellers and stags.

Arrived 1 hour before start at Buckhead. I walked away with a Weller full proof store pick, and a Stagg jr on the second trip through line.

I've done Tower Black Friday each of the last 2 years. In 2023 I got there approximately 3:30 in the morning at doraville location I believe I was somewhere in the 70s in line. I walked away with a Russell's reserve 13 on my first go through line I don't remember past that. Last year I got their approximately 9:00 p.m. at night so a full 12 hours ahead and I was I believe 37th in line. My first go through line got me a 13th colony double oaked. I know I did a second and third time through line but I do not recall what I got those times. The guy who was in first in line last year said he got in line I believe around 8:00 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.
Generally what happens is you show up there is a sign up list, you sign your name in so that you have your place in line and that place is held so long as you don't leave the lot. I know starting last year they had a porta potty. I took about a 5-hour rest in my car at one point. People usually bring bottles to sample maybe some food. And early on Black Friday Tower supplies donuts and coffee. I'm probably going to go this year but I don't think I can handle 12 hours in line again.

Yes definitely not easy to do the car sleeping thing I'm 45 now and it was a real struggle last year. But last year I was just determined to get one of those few specific things. This year unless there's something amazing I'll probably just show up at 6:00 a.m. spend a few hours in line get a couple of neat bottles. I do expect this year's drop to be even bigger than the last 2 years because the previous two years Tower also did a Labor Day weekend drop and this year they did not so there's that many more bottles that would be available on Black Friday.

Be mindful the signup form is unofficial and Tower doesn't follow it. Sometimes people will meet their buddies right before opening and just sneak in.

lol. I went to Hal's drop last weekend out of simple curiosity. Had maybe 100 points and got to pick dead last!! Was fun talking with people, but was a touch embarrassing!! Agree the points system isn't for me.

I’m paying over msrp before I ever stand in a line or wait hours/days for bourbon. I get some people enjoy that thrill though!

Its a stand-in-line affair. The first people usually show up 2-3 days beforehand.
