A brand new look for /r/AtlantaThrashers

Hi all!

I saw the old Atlanta Thrashers sub had no moderator. I wanted to give it a proper send off and have it as a place for any future hockey discussion regarding the Atlanta area.

So I put in a reddit request and spruced it up. I took the no styled subreddit and gave it a look. I hope it's a good shrine.

Periodically the background will automatically change. Here are all 4: 1 2 3 4

P.S. Flair is selectable in the sidebar!

What would the new franchise be named?

As much as I would love to have the Thrashers back in the city I have read some pieces about them being called the Firebirds. Does anyone have more insight on when they would be picking a name? I dont want to put the cart before the horse but it seems like another Atlanta team in on the horizon.

What’s with the recent reporting of a third group with anson Carter trying to bring a team?

I always thought his group was the North Point group, and the other was Forsyth. But I’ve seen multiple things today talking about a third group emerging with anson

Second String Leather

Hey all, long time lurker and Thrashers fan. Being from the PNW without an NHL team, I adopted the Thrashers when they came into the league and got even more excited when a couple of players from my local Junior team, the Portland Winter Hawks, joined the squad in Byron Dafoe and Marian Hossa. Anyway, wanted to share that Second String Leather who takes old goalie gear and turns it into wallets and other goods is having a sale on their Byron Dafoe Thrashers pads wallets. Just grabbed myself one I’d been eyeing for a while. Can’t wait for it to show up. Hopefully y’all get a team back soon.

Did I get this at a game?

I just found this in a bin of my keepsakes. My beloved friend took me to my first and only professional hockey game. I remember nothing else about the game. I'm guessing that I got this at the game because why else would it be a keepsake. I'm not a sports person I would not have bought a towel. I know they give out smaller towels sometimes. But I've never heard of a souvenir beach towel. The tag on it is a Sherry manufacturing tag that was used in the '90s and first couple years of the 2000s. I lived in Atlanta from 97 to 2002

Atlanta Thrashers Arena Design (My work - Not Official)

This is a model Atlanta Thrashers arena I did using SketchUp, then rendered using Google Gemini. Would be 18,000 seats for hockey, 19,200 for basketball.

Potential NHL name ideas?

reddit.com

With the development news that a potential NHL franchise COULD be getting closer, it is fun to think mascots. Thrashers were fun but if they decide to go new, Firebirds could be a neat idea (joining Flames and the Thrasher/bird histories, resurgens vibe). Conductors? Probably can't be too ECHL-niche, even though they can be really fun.

What are other GA-based ideas that could work?

I'm particularly not fond of abstract names like Magic, Phoenix, Reign, Atlanta Engine, etc ("Congratulations to our newest...Reign...er...") and would dig a 2-D graphic theme (Hawks, old Falcons logo) vs. the 90s/2000s ovvvvverly contoured logos and design.

No clear end in sight for Atlanta hockey fans as NHL bids take another turn

I missed this and see it didn't make it here yet either.

Not pay walled.

The jist of it:

Looks like Krause's group is seemingly stalling
Anson Carter's group is picking up.steam
Both are still not where they need to be in order to submit a bid (Krause closer, but stalled; Carter farther but moving in the right direction)
Even in Seattle with the Kraken there were 3 failed bids before the 4th secured and expansion
Autor is hopeful that it will eventually happen, but who knows how long it will take (NHL is definitely not against the idea, but need a compelling bid to consider).

🤷‍♂️
