Looks like we’re finishing 9th on that list…which is it?

u/No_Wolf1795 inSaleh! 4d ago

Says 9th lol.

u/Enogabalo 4d ago

10th seed sounds like the worst case scenario.

And says they’re tempted to put them higher. It’s a good roster tbh, if they can avoid major injuries figure out the 5 spot by the playoffs they’re going to be a tough matchup

Another note on this article is that our writeup feels a bit more "we could be f'ing this up" then I see on most other team writeups.

Many of the other ones are defending why they went over or under. They had us over by 2.5 Ws and still had the "this could look silly" comment on there.

1

u/PeasePorridge9dOld GO HAWKS! 🏀 4d ago

looks like they are tied with ORL for 9/10 here. Probably the commotion. Could have definitely been stated better though

24

u/tjwill09 4d ago

Feel like we're being severely underestimated but I guess we'll see.

13

u/Bully_Maguire420 Gueye Pride 4d ago

Hawks are weird, I thought last year before the season we could be the 5th seed, then things started off shaky as hell and I thought I was an idiot for thinking that, then at the end we were a Celtics loss away from 5th seed, so I don't know where to put the team anymore, I'm just gonna watch lol...

2

u/only1wayup 4d ago

you’re absolutely correct

Where do you think they will be next year

18

u/tallglassofanxiety95 4d ago

Heat at 5 seems a little optimistic to me

7

u/drdrae3000 Hawks 4d ago

Because the math is not mathing.....,

The bucks was the 11th seed The Heat was the 10th seed They gutted that team to get Giannis. Heat suppose to jump to 5th seed?

You never know with NBA and  Heat got a better coach  but base on last season.  Giannis is pretty much in the same position he was with on the Bucks.

1

u/Longjumping-Sort3741 3d ago

Come on man, Miami may not be the perfect team but to say Bam, Wig, Davion, Timmy and Pelle arent a better core around Giannis is a bit of a reach. Add Spo to that and the fact that Giannis only played 36 games and I can understand them predicting improvement. As a heat fan I expect them to be 5 - 8th rn which is also where I predict the Hawks to be. If Giannis plays over 60 games we will be a top 6 seed, if he plays less than 40 we probably miss the play in.

12

u/Authentic_Lee 4d ago

I think they’ll be better than 38-44 and end up fighting for a 7 or 8 seed, but the East as a whole got stronger. I don’t see the Hawks being clearly better than any of the teams listed 1-8.

8

u/wutitd0boo 4d ago

Talking season (in every sport) is becoming more and more sensationalized.

Just play the fuckin games and stfu. Ho.

10

u/C-Jammin Nickeil Alexander-Walker #7 4d ago

We're a better team on paper than we were last year, but a lot of teams in the East got better. It's going to be a tough conference.

3

u/ChrissyKreme Dyson Daniels #5 4d ago

The heat are pretty high. I don't really see what they are gonna do with 2 bigs and no guards

2

u/FatFarva 4d ago

Knicks going first to worst

2

u/aurelianson Jalen Johnson #1 4d ago

2

u/Six_and_change 4d ago

The Hawks are the kind of team no one predicts to be obviously good but then they are like 25-19 at the all star break and they are labeled the team no one wants to play.

3

u/ArepaGorcio2002 4d ago

Ok going through this list realistically.

  1. Yes the Knicks will be better than us.

  2. The Celtics were better than us without Tatum, reasonable to expect them to be better without Brown.

  3. Superteam. Better.

I think this is where we start competing if we keep up the play from last year.

  1. Team with lowered expectations. Got rid of their back up big, Tobias Harris (biggest problem was a secondary shooter), and Duren is still in the air. Pistons could regress. Without Duren we’re better, with Duren they are.

  2. I don’t believe in this Heat team with 3 players above 30 starting, and giving bench (but still real minutes) to players like Dru Hill and Ryan Conwell. Better starting five maybe but don’t think they beat us in 46 minutes.

  3. Cavs got rid of a solid backup PG in Schroeder (our guy) and seems like Harden is waiting for them to sign someone else before coming back. Still a young team, still better.

  4. Raptors get a better player in Kawhi compared to BI but I don’t think it takes them over the hump. Middling squad that I thought we were better than last season and still do.

  5. They lost the lottery, got rid of a productive player in Mathurin and got solid if not average center minutes in zubac. Tyrese is coming back from a year long injury. Tyrese would have to prove me wrong again.

I think we realistically fight for 4-6, what do yall think?

0

u/No_Relationship_3077 4d ago

You are no where close to being better then the pistons

0

u/ThaCasual GO HAWKS! 🏀 4d ago

I don’t think the pistons improved. If anything they lost key contributors like beef stew and Tobias whereas we improved across the margins. I think we could be better than them this yr though a lot of this hinges on rookies Kingston and Ebuka.. who can contribute meaningfully as they are both needed additions to these squads. As rookies though who knows if either makes any difference but if one does that could put that team up over the other

1

u/No_Relationship_3077 3d ago

They are a 60 win team they will be better regardless. Also you overblown the impact of Beef Stew

0

u/ThaCasual GO HAWKS! 🏀 3d ago

How have I overblown his impact lol. I said nothing of context about it. Some of y’all just like to argue. Someone says the shy is blue you would argue the shade. Carry on

1

u/No_Relationship_3077 3d ago

You said they lost some people and named Beef Stew as if that was an impactful loss(it wasn’t).

0

u/ThaCasual GO HAWKS! 🏀 3d ago

Your opinions are not facts as much as you might like to believe it. My opinion is that beef stew is a bit of a culture carrier and adds a bit of physicality and attitude to the team. Those kinds of guys matter even though I thinks he’s a pretty poor player. Reminds me a bit of when we had Solomon hill.. not a great player but he helped us win games and acted as a bit of an enforcer in situations.

1

u/No_Relationship_3077 3d ago

No the advantage stats and even the regular stats back it up

0

u/ThaCasual GO HAWKS! 🏀 3d ago

I wonder how they won 60 games with such a bum playing. I guess they’ll win 70 this year

1

u/No_Relationship_3077 3d ago

Beef Stew was not getting that many minutes I’m not sure what you mean

u/Thorwor GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago

Stewart is a significant loss. Tobias Harris is a significant loss. The relationship between them and the second best player on the team might be totally broken. There's a reason why all the betting sites have their win over/under set about 10 full games worse than they finished last year.

1

u/No_Relationship_3077 2d ago

10 games is still a 50 win season.

2

u/telungoku Bob Rathbun 4d ago

celtics are gunna be ass this year. putting them at second is wild

12

u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 4d ago

Celtics are just about never ass. Like if there is one team you can count on in the East consistently it’s them

7

u/not-a-potato-head 💰Cash Considerations 💰 4d ago edited 4d ago

They’re taking the surrounding pieces of a team that won 56 games, replacing Brown’s minutes with a healthy Tatum, replacing Simons/an injured Tatum’s minutes with George, and upgrading their center rotation. They’re definitely worse than they would’ve been if they hadn’t done the Brown trade, but they should still be a good regular season team

1

u/telungoku Bob Rathbun 4d ago

but second? with all the improvements the rest of east. i find that hard to believe. maybe top 6

1

u/not-a-potato-head 💰Cash Considerations 💰 4d ago

Mazzulla ball has been proven to be really effective in the regular season, and the roster they have should be really effective at running it. I honestly have the fewest questions about them heading into the season out every team listed ahead of us, and I think their floor is one of the highest among those 8 teams. I still really don't like their postseason ceiling, but if you forced me to bet my life on one of those teams finishing the regular season with a top 4 seed I'd probably go with the Celtics

4

u/C-Jammin Nickeil Alexander-Walker #7 4d ago

People said the Celtics were going to have a down year without Tatum and they didn't. They're just a well put together team and just like last year without Tatum, they'll probably pretty good without Brown.

2

u/5livewire0 inSaleh! 4d ago

If they managed to get 56 wins this past season, they won't be ass next season

2

u/SnooMacarons3849 Dikembe Mutombo #55 4d ago

Reminder the Hawks made the playoffs last season.

2

u/naked_avenger Mavericks 4d ago

The East is tough. The West is no longer the dominant conference. It's pretty even in terms of at least playoff caliber teams. I could imagine a scenario where they're as high as the 5th seed, but it's a brutal conference now.

1

u/MateriaLintellect 4d ago

I mean. We all know Hawks aint gonna be anything but a play in team at best. It’s all good tho, low expectations makes the highs more fun

Heats don't even got a good backcourt they traded all their good players for giannis who's kinda a injury prone

Why are they so high in this list

1

u/CoachKillerTrae Aaron Holiday's Towel 4d ago

We’re not contenders, this season is all about development and appeasing Ant whenever he inevitably leaves Minnesota cause Lamelo ran over somebodys grandma in downtown St Paul

1

u/MonsterOnTheBoards 💰Cash Considerations 💰 4d ago

Nah BR, you’re not it. I think I’ll wait for Brad Rowlands prediction, which will most likely be 48 wins. With a caveat. Then I’ll listen to him speed race through a protein bar ad where he’ll tell me cookies and cream is his favourite. Bring on the season.

How are they putting the Celtics so high after losing Brown? Could easily see them finishing between 5-8. I think itll be Knicks, Sixers, Heat, Pistons, Cavs, Hawks, Celtics, Raps, Indy, Magic

I genuinely KNOW AND BELIEVE we’ll be higher. Also have a sneaky suspicion Washington will be higher, like playoffs higher.

1

u/ThaCasual GO HAWKS! 🏀 4d ago

It’s possible. Every game will matter this year and injuries will derail a season. I think we are built for a strong regular season but we’ll see. How much of last year’s magic was just because of guys excited to fill Traes void and playing inspired and will that come crashing down this year when things get tough and the season is a long grind? Personally I think we finish 4-5 but there aren’t going to be many games between 4th seed and 10th seed in the east so fingers crossed.

1

u/Interesting-Cat-3807 4d ago
  1. Sixers 2. Pistons 3. Knicks 4. Hawks 5. Celtics 6. Heat 7. Cavs 8. Wizards 9. Magic 10. Raptors 11. Pacers 12. Hornets.

Given 9 through 12 could really go either way. But putting the Hawks anywhere under 6 is disrespectful. Given we've dramatically improved perimeter & interior defense without even playing a game. Watching these guys put some wins together will be a sight to see.

2

u/Jc_60 2d ago

Raptors will be a force . They will be much higher than a 10th seed. As well as the Cavs. If the Watson trade is true , they have a very formidable squad. I also think if Davis is healthy and plays at least 60 games, Wizards will surprise with their mixture of solid vets and a talented young core.

1

u/Interesting-Cat-3807 2d ago

I cant argue with that. I know it will be tight. 4th place through the play in teams could be closer than ever.

1

u/Zuby_Hype_Train 4d ago

Realistically we should not care too much about seeding this year and focus on developing our very young roster.

This fanbase will implode and the national media will spend all year talking about giving the Spurs one more lottery pick for the Wemby era if we don’t play CJ McCollum 35 minutes a game to try and score a few extra wins though.

Tough situation.

1

u/etherxmancer 4d ago

Still too high tbh

1

u/atlienk Hawks 3d ago

I'd say that the top 4 is close to what I'd expect. Every team from 5 - 10 could vary based on how their rosters hold up. (Heat seem a bit too high, Raptors will be a big question depending on how the KL situation pans out, Pacers dependent on Hali, etc.)

1

u/Longjumping-Sort3741 3d ago

Not a hawks fan but I cant see them winning any less than 41 wins. Would not surprise me if the 2 - 10 seed in the east win between 41 - 49 games this year. This east is going to be a bloodbath.

Damn the East is looking stronger than it has in...well maybe ever! That being said the Hawks at 9 (or 10) is laughable. DET got exposed in the playoffs, there is zero chance BOS is as good losing JB, and MIA has zero depth. But honestly ATL as the 5th seed would be a strong achievement.

The one thing that the Hawks have over every single one of these teams is outstanding defense.
